Job Purpose and Role
We are seeking a System Administrator with an information security background to be the primary administrator and security agent for our system and telecommunications. This role maintains upgrades, maintenance, and installations needed for our employees. The System Administrator will educate our employees and act as the first point of contact for support within the business for technical needs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor all user accounts for least privileges, including Linux system accounts, AWS IAM accounts, VOIP, Email, and others.
- Architect, design, implement, and deploy technical security controls on applicable security services to address problems or enable new business opportunities.
- Research and evaluate new security technologies for potential use as point solutions to address security gaps or enhance existing enterprise security services.
- Enhance security team accomplishments by planning solutions, answering technical questions, teaching, and mentoring team members.
- Plan security systems by evaluating network and security technologies.
- Determine security requirements through business strategy evaluation, system security and vulnerability analyses, risk assessments, and cost estimates.
- Implement security systems, including intrusion detection, equipment/software installation, and preventive/reactive measures.
- Provide leadership and mentoring in security architecture and expertise to peers, developers, management, and users, including technical coaching and training.
- Support compliance with standards, procedures, guidelines, and processes.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies for infrastructure, platforms, OS, and applications.
- Create and maintain vulnerability management policies, procedures, and training.
- Design and implement security automation where feasible.
- Own technical problems and respond promptly to support calls and emails, collaborating with internal customers.
- Perform server administration tasks, including user management, security protocols, and network maintenance.
- Monitor systems for bugs, review data, and respond to issues using existing tools.
- Develop and test new technologies as needed.
- Perform routine system audits and manage nightly backups.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in technology or computer science.
- 5+ years experience in cloud infrastructure and information security.
- Proficient with Bash scripting.
- Ability to work well under pressure and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Experience with vulnerability scanners and understanding vulnerability reports.
- Familiarity with CVSS methodology.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- 2+ years hands-on experience with IAAS and PAAS on a global scale.
- Strong experience with Docker and AWS.
- Understanding of AWS shared responsibility model from a security perspective.
- Time management skills and prior technical support experience.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems, equipment, and monitoring tools.
- Linux Cloud Engineer skills including Linux Administration, AWS, Debian, Nagios/Icinga, DNS, HAProxy, Nginx, and optionally FreePBX.
