This is the new underwriting job type we are introducing to our operating model across the Business Unit!

Why consider this new role? You will be the single point of contact and decision maker for clients, entirely responsible for providing high quality underwriting, portfolio, and client management. You will deliver "holistic underwriting", which means balancing different aspects of the risk to build and maintain a profitable book of business.

About the Role:

Your focus will be on building a portfolio of clients and contracts that outperforms the market benchmark.

A successful (Senior) Client Underwriter will combine world class origination, client management and Underwriting Excellence skills.

Key responsibilities include:

Client management, sales, and industry interaction:
  • Develop and foster client relations across the range of management levels (incl. C-suite)
  • Build and maintain a strong external network
  • Find opportunities in your client portfolio to grow the Core business and develop Transactions and Solutions in collaboration with the relevant specialists within the principles of "right service right client"
  • Understand the products offered by our competitors. Anticipate and analyze future industry/economic/legal/market trends

Underwriting:
  • Perform end-to-end underwriting analyses for core business including risk selection, simple costing, contracts review and structuring
  • Develop a financially outperforming portfolio by providing input in the portfolio strategy
  • Evaluate & assess treaties in accordance with company guidelines and standards

Knowledge building & applying technology:
  • Support knowledge exchange across regions, regularly coach and train less experienced colleagues and help to improve all supporting technology, e.g., simplified tools for costing and pricing

About the Team:

You will join a team of 2 Client Underwriters with diverse experiences, mentalities and skills reporting who like working together to make the most out of the opportunities that the market brings. You will report to the Market Head of Brazil & South Cone based in Sao Paulo - Brazil.

About You:

Essentials:
  • Minimum of 5 years of insurance/reinsurance underwriting experience; reinsurance, portfolio management and/or client management
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, Mathematics or Engineering is a key-differentiator
  • Proficiency in Portuguese and English (Spanish is a plus)
  • Ability to travel 20-25% within your allocated region (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil)

Technical and soft skills:
  • Contractual knowledge, strategic mindset, market intelligence, portfolio steering, product knowledge, risk assessment & appetite
  • Business acumen, client management, consultancy skills, judgement & decision making, negotiation skills
  • Excellent client management skills to build and develop relationships with clients and brokers
