Responsibilities:
- Assist the nurse in patient care activities in emergency situations at the Adult Emergency Room, ensuring life maintenance, preventing damages and sequelae, checking intubation materials, regulating and operating oxygen, vacuum, compressed air systems, monitors, and sterilized materials, in accordance with biosafety norms, institutional policies, procedures, and ethical conduct.
- Receive and hand over shifts, informing the oncoming nurse of all incidents; promote patient reception, communicate discharges, transfers, and deaths to relevant sectors, and organize patient records upon discharge.
- Make notes in medical records, including incidents and care provided; provide comprehensive care according to the established care plan; administer medication as prescribed; assist in the Emergency Room and other units as requested.
- Assist the nurse in supervising the care team and planning nursing assistance, when requested.
- Prepare and forward patients for laboratory and diagnostic tests, assist with sample collection.
- Support the medical team in procedures, collaborate with the nurse in identifying critical patient incidents, observe, inform, and record, and notify the nurse of adverse events and non-conformities.
- Maintain cleanliness of nursing and patient care areas, equipment, and materials.
- Send requests for lab and diagnostic exams, surgery notices, etc.
- Assist doctors and family members with information within your scope of practice.
- Follow institutional policies, norms, and protocols.
- Review reports and notices, monitor patient clinical evolution and status.
- Keep patient records updated and confidential.
- Provide hygiene, comfort, feeding, mobility, vital signs, dressings, sondages, enemas, fluid balance, according to the care plan.
- Participate in infection prevention and control protocols.
- Manage inventory of materials and medications for patients, requesting supplies as needed.
- Check the operation of unit facilities, report repairs needed, and use equipment properly to prevent waste.
- Attend to the public, phone calls, and visits, providing information and guidance on schedules and norms.
- Maintain professional ethical behavior in accordance with the Nursing Code of Ethics.
- Must have a valid registration with the Regional Nursing Council (COREN) and be in good standing.
- Perform other related activities as directed by superiors.
Requirements:
- Mandatory: Completed Nursing Assistant Course
- Desirable: Experience in the area
