Our client is a leading multinational technology company that operates across digital entertainment, e-commerce, and digital financial services sectors.

The position

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate Counsel to join our client legal team in Brazil. The successful candidate will focus on managing mass litigation cases, including those related to Consumer Protection Proceedings (PROCOM) and mass litigation. This role requires a deep understanding of Brazilian consumer protection laws, excellent litigation skills, and the ability to handle high-volume caseloads effectively.

Responsibilities

Manage Mass Litigation:

  • Oversee and manage a high volume of litigation cases, including consumer protection proceedings (PROCOM).
  • Develop and implement strategies for efficient handling of mass litigation and other high-volume legal matters.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel and monitor their performance to ensure alignment with company objectives.

Legal Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct thorough legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents related to mass litigation and consumer protection.
  • Analyze legal risks and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all litigation matters.
  • Generate reports and summaries of ongoing litigation for senior management.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with various departments, including customer service, compliance, and operations, to gather necessary information and support for legal cases.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on legal issues related to consumer protection and litigation.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, particularly those related to consumer protection in Brazil.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and advise on potential impacts to the business.
Requirements
  • Law degree from an accredited law school and active membersh with a state Bar association.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Law or related fields are a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in litigation, with a focus on mass litigation and consumer protection.
  • Experience with PROCOM and mass litigation is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in a corporate legal department or law firm handling high-volume litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of Brazilian consumer protection laws and regulations.
  • Excellent litigation skills, including drafting, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and work under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese and English, both written and spoken.
