Body Builder Support Engineer Associate

We are looking for a Body Builder Support Engineer (Technical Writer) for Volvo Bus.

The group mission within the Body Builder Engineering Support Team is to collaborate with all Product Development areas to ensure Volvo has the preferred chassis for body building, based on a good understanding of the needs from body builders and our internal complete buses.

To succeed as a body building support engineer and technical writer, you should have an interest in how Buses Body Builders work, mechanical structures, welding, machine elements, and a general interest in electrical engineering. Experience is valuable, but a keen interest and a proactive personality are highly regarded for this position.

Main responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the Body Builder Engineering Instructions in three languages (Portuguese, English, and Spanish).
  • Support external Body Builders in their development of building bodies on Volvo Chassis (BEV and Diesel), including mechanical and electrical interfaces.
  • Develop 3D and 2D drawings using CATIA and ensure proper documentation is entered into Volvo Systems (Kola).
  • Perform weight analysis to ensure technical and legal weight distribution of complete vehicles.
  • Support aftermarket maintenance and quality topics related to External Body Builders.
  • Follow Volvo standards during the design process, primarily using CATIA.
  • Ensure quality in the documentation of developed parts.
  • Engage in maintenance, continuous improvement, and quality initiatives.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in sheet metal and mechanical structures development, preferably in automotive.
  • Proficiency in CATIA.
  • Ability to work with electrical engineering, mainly wiring harnesses and component placement.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to propose improvement ideas in processes and deliverables.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and teamwork.
  • Good understanding of the complete product, connecting cross-functional areas to final delivery.
  • Proactive, self-driven, with a desire for ongoing learning and development.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work within a local and global cross-functional network.
  • Fluent in English.
Nice to have
  • Spanish communication skills.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience with heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Experience with Volvo software documentation tools, such as Kola.
  • Knowledge of bus legal requirements (Passenger Area, Vehicle height).
