Associate Attorney, Workers' Compensation Defense

This is a premier statewide firm seeking experienced California attorneys to join our team of workers' compensation defense professionals. Over our 38 years of legal practice, we have developed vibrant long-term relationships with many of California's largest commercial insurers, private employers, and public agencies. This position is in our firm's Workers' Compensation Defense Group, focusing on defending all aspects of workers' compensation claims under California law. Attorneys have the option to work remotely (except for in-person court appearances, depositions, meetings, etc., as professionally required) or in-person at one of F+B's five offices throughout California. The expected salary range is $120,000-$250,000 per year, with actual compensation based on experience and other factors as permitted by law.

We have established long-term relationships with major California insurers, private employers, and public agencies. Our attorneys can choose to work remotely or in-office at our five California locations. The salary range for this role is $120,000-$250,000 annually, dependent on experience.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage all aspects of WCAB litigation.
  2. Maintain consistent communication with client representatives, including claims professionals, risk managers, and HR executives.
  3. Prepare Initial Defense Analyses (IDAs) for new cases.
  4. Assess claim exposure.
  5. Conduct depositions of applicants, witnesses, and experts.
  6. Conduct QME evaluations.
  7. Appear for hearings and trials before the WCAB.
  8. Facilitate prompt, cost-effective claim resolutions.
Qualifications
  1. Prior experience as a California workers' compensation attorney, with defense experience preferred.
  2. Member of the California State Bar in good standing.
  3. Ability to meet a minimum of 190 billable hours per month / 2280 per year.
  4. Proficiency in a paperless environment.
  5. Experience with MerusCase legal management software.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
