Job Description: Advocacy Director - Latin America & Caribbean (LAC)

AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION (AHF) is a global nonprofit organization providing innovative medicine and advocacy to over 2,000,000 people across 47 countries.

Founded in 1987, AHF is the largest provider of HIV/AIDS medical care worldwide. We are seeking an Advocacy Director to manage policy change initiatives across our Latin America and Caribbean bureau, focusing on increasing access to treatment, rapid testing, and condoms through strategic advocacy and marketing efforts in the following countries:

  • Argentina
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Dominican Republic
  • Guatemala
  • Jamaica
  • Mexico
  • Panama

The Advocacy Director will lead, direct, and evaluate advocacy plans, including budget management, for all bureau countries. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about HIV/AIDS community support and can be based in any operating country.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of advocacy and policy change strategies at regional and national levels.
  2. Supervise and coordinate country teams in advocacy planning and budgeting processes.
  3. Oversee high-level advocacy activities related to HIV prevention, testing, and global health policy.
  4. Conduct research, prepare policy briefs, and develop advocacy materials.
  5. Coordinate with global departments and conduct advocacy trips to countries within the bureau.
  6. Establish partnerships with organizations, policymakers, and media to promote advocacy initiatives.
  7. Maintain relationships with partners and external agencies, and identify funding opportunities.
  8. Collaborate with bureau directors to align advocacy strategies and resolve issues.
  9. Monitor advocacy-related expenditures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, political science, law, sociology, or related fields.
  • Master’s degree or relevant experience in gender studies, public health policy, or Latin American health policy is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of advocacy experience at regional and country levels.
  • Proven leadership skills in team management.

Required Skills:

  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Strategic planning and scenario analysis skills.
  • Proficiency with technological tools for communication and networking.
  • Experience in lobbying and engaging with legislators and decision-makers.
  • Strong leadership, creativity, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Valid passport and US visa, with ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

Job Location: The role is based in any of the countries where AHF operates.
