Job description

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Comply with the “Permanent Orders of the Captain”;
• Assist in the vessel's maneuvers, standing the watch for which you have been assigned;
• Assist during anchoring maneuvers, hoisting, docking, undocking, entering and leaving docks, and other vessel-related operations, as requested by your superior;
• Receive and transport deck materials belonging to the deck section to the storage areas;
• Familiarize yourself with cargo handling equipment and operate it when necessary, provided you have received proper training;
• Perform necessary maintenance services for the vessel, such as treatment, cleaning, and painting of the deck and superstructure;
• Perform general services in other areas of the vessel as requested by the First Officer, through the Bosun;
• Bail and freshen up the vessel;
• Perform maintenance services on the vessel's safety and lifesaving equipment;
• Perform maintenance services on deck equipment, workshop tools, etc.;
• Assist the Bosun in all deck duties, including sounding;
• Perform necessary maintenance on your own cabin;
• Position fire-fighting equipment near the fuel intake when transferring oil;
• Place or remove the gangway for the pilot's boarding or disembarking and hoist and lower flags and signals designated by the Watch Officer;
• Perform daily cleaning of the bridge;
• Participate in tank cleaning duties when requested by the First Officer and/or Chief Engineer;
• When assigned to bridge watch duty:
  • In case of bad weather, close doors, portholes, and hatches on deck;
  • Pay close attention to the vessel's movement, landmarks, nearby vessels, and immediately inform the Officer of any irregularities observed;
• When assigned to watch duty on the gangway:
  • Stay at your post and only leave to perform duties related to your position, requesting a replacement;
• Always present yourself using the full PPE for the job, treating everyone courteously, with politeness and respect;
• Prevent unauthorized persons from boarding the vessel, according to the orders you receive, informing the Officer of any abnormality in this regard;
• Check the conditions of mooring lines, gangway, embarkation ladder, gangway plank, safety nets, etc., and inform the Officer of any irregularities observed;
• Hoist and lower flags;
• Maintain a properly filled out and signed access control log, observing visitors' entry and exit times;

Cargo Handling Operations:

• Prepare the deck to receive cargo at the port, clearing the area;
• Assist the Officer of the Watch in inspecting the condition of the cargo and the stowage location;
• Supervise dock workers to ensure they follow safety standards, such as wearing PPE, smoking restrictions, etc.;
• Report any indications of violation or irregularity in the cargo to the Officer of the Watch;
• Provide necessary materials for cargo stowing;
• Assist the First Officer in verifying cargo stowage before departure;
• Unstow cargo when requested;
• Check if your "Seafarer Health Certificate" is valid and ensure its renewal before expiration;
• Participate in integrated drills;
• Work carefully and professionally, using the necessary PPE to perform your tasks safely and ensuring others involved do the same;
• Know your role and other roles described in the vessel’s master emergency duties chart;
• Familiarize yourself with the distribution and operation of the vessel’s safety and lifesaving equipment;
• Participate in risk assessments before activities.

Your responsibility is to carry out your tasks punctually and in accordance with the company’s quality standards.

Job requirements

• Helideck (Able Seaman)
• CBSP Certificate – Basic Offshore Platform Safety Course, issued by an institution accredited by DPC;
• BOMBAV/MCIA – Aviation Firefighter / Aviation Maneuver and Fire Fighting Course;
• ASO (Occupational Health Certificate) with clearance for offshore work;
• Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (T-HUET), conducted mandatorily at a training center certified by OPITO.
