Job summary

AX Coin, the first licensed stablecoin issuer under the regulation of the Central Bank of Bahrain, is seeking an Associate Director of Compliance & MLRO to join our team. This senior regulatory leadership role has direct accountability for regulatory integrity, compliance architecture, and MLRO function, reinforcing our commitment to strong, transparent relationships with the CBB and regulators.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in compliance roles within banking, fintech, payments or digital assets.
• Strong regulator-facing experience, ideally within Bahrain or GCC markets.
• Deep AML/CFT, sanctions, and financial crime expertise; able to act as MLRO.
• Experience operating in regulated financial or digital asset environments.
• International exposure and relevant professional qualifications (ICA, ACAMS) highly desirable.
• Strong judgment, leadership presence and excellent stakeholder communication skills.
• Exceptional resilience under stress, strong sense of responsibility and high achievement motivation.
• Priority will be given to candidates who can join immediately or on short notice.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead all regulatory engagement with the Central Bank of Bahrain and relevant authorities, including licensing applications, regulatory approvals, and ongoing supervisory correspondence.
• Act as the designated MLRO with full independence and direct access to the Board: receive and assess internal STRs, decide on and file external STRs, and manage related investigations.
• Design, implement, and continuously enhance AML/CFT, sanctions, KYC/CDD, and transaction monitoring frameworks.
• Draft, govern, and maintain all compliance, risk, and governance policies and procedures.
• Oversee regulatory reporting, internal and external audits, inspections, and remediation programs.
• Advise product, technology, operations, and leadership teams on regulatory interpretation and embed compliance-by-design into stablecoin issuance, payments, custody, and settlement flows.
• Build and lead a strong compliance culture, including staff training and awareness programs.
• Own the enterprise risk management framework covering regulatory risk, operational risk, financial crime risk, and security & technology risk.
• Prepare and present the annual MLRO report to senior management and the Board on the effectiveness of AML/CFT controls, risk posture, and key issues.
