Job description

Responsibilities:
  • The Deck Hand reports to the Master.
  • Contribute to ensuring the vessel is always available for deployment in a safe and efficient manner, as directed by the Master and in accordance with HMS policies/procedures and local legislation.
  • Perform all work tasks safely; seek guidance from the Master if in doubt before starting work.
  • Propose initiatives to improve onboard safety levels.
  • Participate actively in safety training such as drills onboard.
  • Perform operational duties related to all vessel tasks, including assisting with salvage jobs, workshop jobs ashore, or preparing equipment onshore/tow.
  • Perform maintenance and housekeeping duties on deck, in the engine room, or accommodation as instructed by the Master.
  • Stand watches such as lookout on the bridge and on deck as required.
  • Obliged to stop work if a task is unsafe and inform the Master, following the Stop Work procedure including 'Take 5'.
  • Report proactively and near misses to the Master, following reporting procedures for incidents that could cause injury, illness, pollution, or damage.
  • Comply with the company's safety management system regulations.
  • Conduct induction training for visitors, employees, and authorized persons when a Master, Deck Officer, or Engineer is unavailable.
Knowledge and Qualifications:
  • II/4 - Nav Watch Rating - Unlimited
  • Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1)
  • Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (A-VI/6)
  • Valid Seafarer Medical Certificate
