JEWELLERY DESIGNER
Al Zain Jewellery is looking for a designer with the vision to create more than jewellery.
Founded in Bahrain in 1930, Al Zain has built nearly a century of heritage through jewellery design, craftsmanship and manufacturing. Today, we are entering a new phase of international development, evolving our collections, strengthening our design identity and introducing Al Zain to a broader global luxury audience.
We are looking for an exceptional Jewellery Designer to become part of that journey.
This opportunity is for a designer with a distinct creative point of view, exceptional drawing ability and a deep understanding of jewellery, who can transform inspiration into original creations and develop ideas from the first sketch through to the finished piece.
THE ROLE
The Jewellery Designer will contribute to the creative development of Al Zain’s collections, signature pieces and High Jewellery.
Working closely with Product Development, CAD, Gemology and Production, the designer will bridge creative vision and technical execution, ensuring that every creation retains its original character while meeting the highest standards of craftsmanship, proportion, construction and production.
The role will involve both individual design creation and collection development, with the opportunity to influence the evolving visual language of Al Zain.
CREATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Concept & Design
- Develop original jewellery concepts from initial inspiration through to approved design.
- Produce sophisticated hand sketches and detailed jewellery illustrations.
- Develop designs for fine jewellery, signature collections and High Jewellery.
- Explore new forms, proportions, materials, gemstones, settings and construction techniques.
- Translate cultural, artistic, architectural, natural and contemporary references into distinctive jewellery.
- Develop creative concepts that are recognisable, relevant and commercially viable.
- Present and articulate design concepts clearly to senior creative and business stakeholders.
Collection Development
- Contribute to the creative direction and development of new collections.
- Build coherent collection stories, themes and design narratives.
- Develop hero pieces alongside commercially relevant core designs.
- Establish distinctive design elements and recurring codes that can evolve across collections.
- Maintain the House’s distinctive design identity while bringing fresh ideas and new designs to each collection.
- Collaborate with Product Development and Merchandising to balance creativity, market relevance and commercial opportunity.
High Jewellery
- Develop exceptional High Jewellery concepts with strong creative and technical depth.
- Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of precious gemstones, proportions, colour, composition and setting.
- Design pieces that maximise the character and beauty of exceptional stones.
- Work closely with Gemology, CAD and Production to translate complex concepts into technically achievable creations.
- Participate in creative and technical reviews throughout development.
Design to Production
- Work closely with CAD Designers to translate sketches into precise 3D models.
- Review CAD development and ensure design integrity is maintained.
- Collaborate with Production and technical teams to resolve construction and manufacturing challenges.
- Review prototypes and recommend design refinements where required.
- Ensure the final creation remains faithful to the approved creative direction.
CREATIVE RESEARCH & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT:
- Conduct continuous research across jewellery, art, architecture, fashion, culture and contemporary design.
- Monitor international luxury jewellery trends while developing an independent creative perspective.
- Study historical jewellery and cultural references to identify opportunities for contemporary interpretation.
- Develop mood boards, research materials and visual references for future collections.
- Contribute to the evolution of Al Zain’s distinctive design codes.
- Bring new perspectives, techniques and sources of inspiration into the creative process.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for a designer who has already developed a strong creative identity and understands the standards expected within international luxury jewellery.
You will ideally bring:
- 7–12+ years of professional jewellery design experience, preferably with a recognised luxury jewellery or high-end jewellery house.
- A compelling portfolio demonstrating original jewellery design and collection development.
- Proven experience across Fine Jewellery; High Jewellery experience is highly desirable.
- Exceptional hand-sketching and jewellery illustration skills.
- Strong understanding of gemstones, jewellery construction, proportions, settings and manufacturing.
- Ability to translate creative concepts into technically viable jewellery.
- Experience collaborating with CAD Designers, Product Development and jewellery workshops.
- Strong understanding of the complete journey from concept, sketch and CAD through prototype and final production.
- Strong aesthetic judgement and attention to detail.
- Ability to create both highly conceptual and commercially relevant designs.
- Awareness of international luxury jewellery and design movements.
- Ability to develop distinctive design codes rather than simply follow trends.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- International exposure is highly desirable.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.

WHY AL ZAIN?
This is an opportunity to work with an independent Arabian luxury jewellery House with nearly a century of heritage and a growing international ambition.
Our environment brings together designers, CAD specialists, gemologists, artisans and production experts, allowing creative ideas to remain closely in-house, from concept to finished creation
The opportunity is particularly relevant for a designer who wants to contribute to something that is still being shaped—developing new collections, establishing stronger design codes and helping translate Arabian heritage into contemporary international luxury.
If your portfolio demonstrates originality, craftsmanship, cultural sensitivity and a genuine point of view, we would like to hear from you.
