Amana Healthcare provides long-term care for adult patients with complex medical needs in an inpatient setting. Multidisciplinary care will be provided though intensive care unit (ICU) physicians, geriatricians, nurses, therapists, and a patient & family experience team who work collaboratively to enhance the quality of life for those patients. It also offers specialized rehabilitation for individuals who require inpatient rehabilitation following a life-altering event, such as stroke, brain injury, spine injury, joint replacement, or amputation.
Job Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to oversee and enforce occupational health and safety standards across our operations in Bahrain. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting a safe work environment by developing and implementing policies, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with Bahrain Labour Law, Ministry of Labour, and international safety regulations
Key Responsibilities
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise maintenance activities related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, generators, medical gas systems, water systems, and fire safety equipment.
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and ensure timely resolution of maintenance issues.
- Monitor facility infrastructure performance and ensure uninterrupted operation of critical systems.
- Manage building renovations, modifications, and capital improvement projects.
Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NHRA, Ministry of Health, Civil Defence, occupational health and safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Lead facility safety initiatives, including emergency preparedness, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and disaster management plans.
- Support accreditation requirements and maintain readiness for inspections and audits.
- Ensure proper documentation and statutory records are maintained.
- Manage outsourced service providers including housekeeping, security, waste management, pest control, laundry, landscaping, and maintenance contractors.
- Evaluate vendor performance and ensure service level agreements are met.
- Coordinate procurement of facility-related equipment, materials, and services.
- Negotiate contracts and monitor contractor compliance with safety and quality standards.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Prepare and manage the annual facilities budget.
- Monitor operational expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Review utility consumption and implement energy efficiency initiatives.
- Ensure optimal utilization of resources while maintaining service quality.
- Lead and supervise maintenance and facilities staff.
- Conduct performance reviews, training, and development activities.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to support operational requirements.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Identify facility-related risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Investigate facility incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency and patient experience.
- Participate in organizational committees related to safety, environment, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Facility Management (CFM, FMP, IFMA, or equivalent) preferred.
- Certification in Health & Safety or Fire Safety is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 10-12 years of facility management experience, preferably within hospitals, rehabilitation centres, or healthcare facilities.
- Experience managing contractors, maintenance teams, and large-scale facility operations.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
