Role Description

As a Backend Engineer (AI Agent/Harness Specialist), you will design, build, and maintain backend services that power Spookling’s AI-driven workspace, with a strong focus on agent orchestration and integration harnesses. You will develop and optimize APIs, data pipelines, and microservices that connect AI models to user-facing features, ensuring performance, reliability, and security. Day-to-day, you will collaborate closely with product managers, AI/ML engineers, and front-end developers to translate business requirements into scalable backend architectures. You will be responsible for implementing integration layers with external platforms, monitoring system health, troubleshooting production issues, and improving developer tooling for AI agent workflows. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Manama, where you will work with a cross-functional team to ship features quickly in a dynamic startup environment.

Qualifications

• Strong back-end web development skills, including experience building APIs, microservices, and database-driven applications.
• Solid software development foundations, with experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining production-grade systems.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming (OOP) and modern programming paradigms relevant to scalable backend architectures.
• Programming expertise in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Node.js, Go, Java) and familiarity with relevant frameworks.
• Understanding of front-end development concepts and ability to collaborate effectively with front-end engineers on API design.
• Experience integrating AI/ML models or agents into backend systems, including orchestration, monitoring, and logging.
• Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases, caching strategies, and message queues for building robust data flows.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), containerization (Docker), and CI/CD practices.
• Comfort working in a startup environment, with a focus on experimentation, rapid iteration, and continuous improvement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent
