Job summary

Svitzer is seeking an Engine Rating to support the Chief Engineer aboard our vessel. You will help keep the vessel ready for deployment, perform tasks safely, and follow HMS policies and local regulations. You will participate in drills, assist with deck and engine room duties, and report any unsafe conditions promptly.

Required are 24 months sea time as an Oiler and STCW Basic Safety Training; English language skills preferred. Diversity is valued at Svitzer.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of English language preferred.
  • At least 24 months of Sea time as an Oiler.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and prior training in watch rating duties.

Responsibilities

  • Support Chief Engineer to keep vessel available for deployment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform work tasks safely and seek guidance from Chief Engineer when in doubt.
  • Participate in safety training and drills onboard; assist with maintenance and housekeeping as instructed.
  • Stop Work if a task is unsafe and notify the Master, following Stop Work and Take 5 procedures.
  • Comply with company safety management system regulations.

Job description

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • The Engine Rating reports to the Chief Engineer.
  • The Engine Rating contributes so the vessel is always available to be deployed in a safe and efficient manner, as directed by the Chief Engineer and always in accordance with HMS policies/procedures and according to local legislation when applicable.
  • To perform all work tasks safely and if in doubt before the work start ask the Chief Engineer for guidance
  • Propose initiatives for raising the onboard safety level
  • Active participation in safety training like drills onboard
  • To perform duties assigned by the Chief Engineer related to all tasks on the vessel.
  • To perform maintenance and housekeeping duties on deck, in the engine room or accommodation as instructed by the Chief Engineer.
  • The Engine Rating has the obligation to Stop Work whenever a task is unsafe (by personal judgement) and then inform the Master. Deck Hands must know the procedure Stop Work that also include the `Take 5`. `Stop Work` and `Take 5` is simplest measures Svitzer have for crew to prevent personal injuries. Master is responsible for instruction.
  • The Engine Rating must know the procedure Proactive and Near Miss Reporting for the various type of occurrences that should be reported to the Chief Engineer or Master with the potential to cause injury, illness, pollution, defects or damage. Chief Engineer is responsible for instruction.
  • Comply with the regulations of the company safety management system.
  • Induction training of visitors, employees and other persons authorized by SVITZER to access the vessel where a Master, Deck Officer or Chief Engineer/Engineer or Deck Rating is unavailable.

  • Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties A-VI/6
  • Valid Seafarer Medical
Training/Special skills required:
