ENGIE Belgium is seeking a Technology Lead – Renewable Energy Systems in Brussels to drive architecture, deliver backend services, and coach a development team within the Renewables Post-Trade group. You will shape the Green Power Suite and collaborate across Europe, US and APAC, while guiding SDLC practices and AI-enabled tooling.

You will lead design decisions, orchestrate API development, and mentor engineers to ensure reliable delivery of energy management solutions.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in information technology or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience as Technical Lead/Lead Developer/Architect.
  • Proven ability to design scalable enterprise architectures.
  • Strong Python development and PostgreSQL skills.
  • Experience with API development and data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging platforms (RabbitMQ, Kafka).
  • Hands-on AWS and containerized solutions; CI/CD and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent English communication; mentoring and collaboration skills.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES as Technology Lead

The Origination and Contract Management (OCM) IS team is responsible for the maintenance and evolution of a critical application suite called Green Power Suite (GPS), which enables Energy Management teams to manage upstream power and gas assets for ENGIE and its clients, as well as market risk exposure.

The suite supports all activities required to manage Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with asset owners across various technologies, including wind, solar, battery storage and decentralised flexibility assets, covering the full lifecycle from tender management and contract administration to asset steering, optimisation decisions, risk management, curtailment management and invoicing.

As Technology Lead Developer, you act as the technical reference within the Renewables Post-Trade team, part of the OCM IS organisation.

You are responsible for delivering software increments, driving the evolution of the technical architecture of the team's application landscape to support the GPS Refoundation programme, contributing to the continuous improvement of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and coaching team members on development best practices.

You are the immediate partner of the team's Team Lead, providing technical guidance, advising on the team's technical skill mix, and playing a key role in the staffing and selection of developer profiles.

You maintain strong alignment with the cross-functional teams responsible for SDLC governance, release management and test management, while closely collaborating with the GPS Refoundation team.

Your key activities will include:
  • Supporting the evolution of technical architecture and making key technology decisions.
  • Participating in Agile delivery processes, including sprint planning, retrospectives and team coordination.
  • Contributing to project organization by reporting status, participating in project scoping activities, identifying and mitigating technical risks, and ensuring delivery timelines are met.
  • Designing and implementing backend services; developing APIs to integrate application components within the broader information ecosystem (internal and external applications, data platforms and storage systems); building event-based data integration system; working with data repositories such as PostgreSQL, S3 and DynamoDB; and leveraging AWS services including RDS, S3, IAM, Lambda, ECS and Docker.
  • Contributing to the team's continuous improvement initiatives, development practices and tooling strategy (incl. the adoption of AI); sharing software development best practices and coaching developers.
  • Participating in recruitment activities and being responsible for assessing and validating candidates' technical competencies.
YOUR PROFILE as Technology Lead
  • A master’s degree in information technology or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in software development.
  • Previous experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Developer or Technical Architect with:
  • Proven expertise in designing scalable enterprise application architecture:
    • Strong proficiency in Python development and solid experience with PostgreSQL and data modelling.
    • Experience with API development and data pipelines.
    • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging platforms (RabbitMQ, Kafka or equivalent).
    • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud environments and containerized solutions
    • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle practices, CI/CD and DevOps principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional proficiency in English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive mindset and a passion for mentoring others.
