Médiane Benelux seeks a Senior Technical Lead (Java) to join a long‑term program modernizing real‑time control room systems and critical operational software in the railway domain. You will join an IT department managing around twenty core Java applications for monitoring and controlling real‑time railway traffic.

The role requires a Master’s in CS, 5–10 years of Java full‑stack experience, and strong English.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5–10 years of experience as a Senior Java Full‑Stack Engineer or Technical Lead.
• Strong expertise in Java 17; exposure to Java 21+.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
• CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and GitLab.
• Experience with Jira Agile, Xray, Confluence.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Fluent English (C1); French/Dutch at C2.

Responsabilités

• Act as Technical Lead within a full‑stack Java squad.
• Design, develop, and maintain complex real‑time applications, including new features and refactoring.
• Ensure performance, reliability, and high availability of production systems.
• Support and coach developers through strong technical expertise.
• Promote clean, readable, and reusable code.
• Produce and maintain technical and functional documentation.
• Apply internal guidelines, standards, and procedures.
• Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation after onboarding.

Job Description

Our client, a major player in the railway infrastructure and real‑time traffic management sector, is looking for a Senior Technical Lead (Java) to join a long-term strategic program modernizing real‑time control room systems and critical operational software.

Context

You will join an IT department responsible for a portfolio of around twenty business‑critical Java applications used to monitor and control real‑time railway traffic.

The Program Focuses On

• Improving operational efficiency in control rooms
• Consolidating a central real‑time IT platform
• Enabling exception‑based traffic supervision
• Strengthening cybersecurity in line with European NIS directives

You will work as a hands‑on Technical Lead within an agile/scrum development team.

Main Responsibilities

• Act as Technical Lead within a full‑stack Java squad
• Design, develop, and maintain complex real‑time applications, including new features and refactoring
• Ensure performance, reliability, and high availability of production systems
• Support and coach developers through strong technical expertise
• Promote clean, readable, and reusable code
• Produce and maintain technical and functional documentation
• Apply internal guidelines, standards, and procedures
• After onboarding, participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation (approx. one week every eight weeks)

Profile / Requirements

• Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• 5–10 years of experience as a Senior Java Full‑Stack Engineer or Technical Lead
• Confirmed experience in Agile/Scrum (Scrum Master certification is a plus)
• Strong expertise in Java 17; exposure to Java 21+
• Minimum five years as a Java full‑stack engineer
• Good knowledge of: Tibco RDV, Eclipse RCP, Hazelcast
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift
• CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and GitLab
• Experience using Jira Agile, Xray, Confluence
• Understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery architectures
• Ability to understand the critical nature of real‑time railway systems
• Strong team integration and alignment with values such as kindness, courage, positivity, and reliability

• Structured, clear, and concise interactions with stakeholders

• Excellent command (C2) of French or Dutch
