NOWJOBS, part of House of HR, is seeking an experienced Team Lead for its Product & Engineering teams in Ghent. You will guide delivery, people and stakeholder management while staying hands-on 40% of the time.

You will report to the CTO and collaborate with Product Managers, Tech Leads, and Architects to shape the platform’s future across Nova, Moondust and Terra teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Extensive software engineering experience with credible technical skills and code understanding.
• Ability to map options and explain pros/cons based on facts.
• Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring people.
• Set priorities and oversee delivery without micromanagement.
• Clear communication across developers, product and management.
• Fluent English, written and spoken.

Where will you join us?

You will join our Product & Engineering department, where three development teams (Nova, Moondust, and Terra) work together to build and evolve our platform: a monorepo consisting of three frontend applications running on a shared backend (Node.js, TypeScript, MySQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, and Kubernetes).

Each team operates as an autonomous unit with its own domain, Product Manager, Tech Lead, developers, and QA Engineers. As Team Lead, you are the driving force behind your team: you are responsible for delivery and people, while the Tech Lead steers the technical direction and the Product Manager defines the what and why. The partnership between you and the Product Manager is at the heart of the team.

You will report directly to the CTO and work closely with the other Team Leads and the Architects.

What will you do?

As Team Lead, you will make an impact across five key areas.

Delivery. You keep the high-level planning on track, ensure delivery remains predictable, and remove blockers for your team. You protect your people's focus so they can do what they do best: build and deliver high-quality software within a realistic timeframe.

People & Team. You conduct 1-on-1s, provide feedback, and support your team members in their growth. You keep an eye on morale, trust, and team dynamics, while actively contributing to recruitment. Low turnover and a team that genuinely enjoys coming to work: that's your signature.

Stakeholder Management. You align priorities and scope with the Product Manager, manage expectations, and keep stakeholders informed about progress and risks. You are the first point of contact for everything related to your team.

Leadership. You lead by example, embody our values, and build a culture of ownership and accountability. You are the face of your team within the organization.

Ownership. You are ultimately accountable for your team's results. You take responsibility for decisions, successes, and failures alike.

As an experienced engineer yourself, you will remain actively involved in the technical side of things. In practice, you will spend approximately 60% of your time leading your team and 40% on cross-team projects and hands-on engineering work. This allows you to stay technically sharp and maintain credibility and respect as an engineer.

Who are you?

• You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or have equivalent professional experience.
• You have extensive experience as a software engineer and are technically credible: you understand the code, the trade-offs, and the day‑to‑day reality of a development team.
• You take a pragmatic approach to balancing business and engineering trade-offs. You can clearly map out the options, explain the pros and cons based on facts, and help the team make the right decision together.
• You have demonstrable experience in, or a strong affinity for, leading, coaching, or mentoring people. You get energy from seeing others grow and succeed.
• You ensure predictable delivery by setting priorities and maintaining oversight without falling into micromanagement.
• You communicate clearly and effectively, and can switch seamlessly between developers, product, and management.
• You are fluent in English, both written and spoken, and communicate professionally.
• You have a positive, proactive mindset and thrive in a fast-growing, constantly evolving environment.
