Jan De Nul is seeking a Teamlead Procurement Mechanical Components in Hofstade (Aalst) to lead a 12-person purchasing team. You will coach, develop technical knowledge, and drive purchasing strategies while handling contract negotiations and performance KPIs.

You will bridge technical understanding with commercial acumen, ensuring the procurement process runs smoothly from request to delivery and payment, in a dynamic global project environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (technical direction is a plus) or A2 with relevant experience.
• Experience in a similar role and passion for coaching and developing people.
• Feel for technical matters and broad interest in technical topics.
• Purchasing or sales experience is a plus.
• Structure with clear planning and strong follow-up.
• Fluent Dutch and English.

Responsibilities

• Coach and guide a team of administrative staff and purchasers; hold regular 1-on-1 meetings.
• Build technical and commercial knowledge within the team; provide training.
• Set up team-specific purchasing strategies aligned with department strategy; guide implementation including contract negotiations.
• Ensure correct application of procedures; participate in Procurement Operational working groups.
• Set up team KPIs; monitor workloads and lead times; improve lead times from request to order; manage complaints.
• Check orders (content, structure, delivery conditions); follow up on critical requests; lead biweekly team meetings.

Together with an experienced team of buyers, you will be responsible for the procurement of mechanical components, ensuring that the right materials are available at the right time and under the best possible conditions for our projects. As a team lead, you will combine your technical and commercial expertise with a coaching-oriented leadership style. In this role, you will help strengthen our procurement organisation and contribute to the successful delivery of Jan De Nul’s challenging projects worldwide.Your RoleAs **Teamlead Procurement Mechanical Components**, you take the helm of an operational purchasing team of 12 colleagues. You keep everything under control, monitor priorities, workloads, and lead times, and ensure that the entire purchasing process from request to delivery and payment runs smoothly and efficiently.What makes this position extra interesting is the combination of people management and the commercial aspect. You coach your team and remain actively involved in purchasing critical dossiers yourself. This way, you maintain a feel for day-to-day practice and can quickly make adjustments where necessary. This combination allows you to switch easily between logistical insight, technical understanding, commercial sharpness, while in your coaching role you let your team grow and bring out the best in everyone.You work with a broad and technical product range such as engine spare parts for ships, valves, pumps, and hydraulic components, including specials and urgent cases, making every day different and ensuring challenges are never lacking.You are never on your own.
