Pauwels Consulting is assisting a key energy sector client in Brussels to recruit a Software Engineer for AI-centric applications. You will design, implement, and improve production-quality solutions using LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows to support sustainable energy infrastructure.

Join a collaborative team, develop backend services and APIs, optimize retrieval pipelines, and ensure robust testing, observability, and security-conscious data handling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend or full‑stack software engineering experience.
• At least 1 year integrating LLMs or Generative AI into apps.
• Strong Python programming skills.

Our client, a key player in the energy sector, is seeking a Software Engineer to join a specialized team developing AI-centric applications. The role involves designing, implementing, and improving production-quality solutions using large language models and agentic workflows to support sustainable energy infrastructure.

• Design and implement AI-powered applications using LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflow patterns.
• Build backend services, APIs, and integrations required for AI-centric software solutions.
• Optimize retrieval pipelines including chunking, embeddings, vector search, and reranking techniques.
• Develop reliable workflows using LLM APIs and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Implement comprehensive evaluation, testing, monitoring, and observability for AI applications.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define safe patterns for tool use and human-in-the-loop approvals.

• You have 5+ years of experience in backend or full-stack software engineering.
• You bring 1+ years of experience integrating LLMs or other Generative AI services into software applications.
• You possess strong programming skills in Python.
• You have practical knowledge of RAG, embeddings, vector search, and retrieval quality improvement.
• You're experienced with MCP, A2A, tool calling, or multi-agent workflows.
• You bring experience designing maintainable services with CI/CD, testing, and deployment practices.
• You possess an understanding of cloud-native development and security-conscious data handling.
• You're able to communicate technical trade-offs and evaluate AI application quality metrics.
• You are fluent in English with active knowledge of French or Dutch.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with AI frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, or Semantic Kernel.
• Familiarity with the Azure cloud environment and Microsoft AI ecosystem tools.
• Experience with .NET and C#.
• Knowledge of vector databases or enterprise search platforms.
• Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments.
