Job summary

Hitachi Energy Ltd. based in Zaventem, Belgium, seeks a Service Commissioning Engineer to join our field-based service team. You will commission, install, test, and maintain high-voltage transformers and electrical equipment at customer sites.

You will diagnose issues, provide technical guidance, and collaborate with engineering to improve product reliability. This role requires travel within Belgium and occasional international calls, a strong safety mindset, and fluency in English with Dutch

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years in service, commissioning or maintenance.
• At least 2 years in high-voltage environments.
• Fluent in English (B2) and Dutch (B1) for safety communications.
• Willingness to travel within Belgium and abroad.

Job description

At Hitachi Energy, our purpose is advancing a sustainable energy future for all. We are looking for a dedicated Service Commissioning Engineer to join our Service team based in Zaventem Belgium. In this field-based role, you will work directly with customers to commission, install, test, and maintain high-voltage transformers and related electrical equipment.

You will play a critical role in ensuring reliable and safe operation of our systems, performing diagnostic tests, providing technical advice, and supporting continuous improvements in product performance. This position offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise in high-voltage environments, travel across the region, and contribute to the energy transition in a hands-on way.

How you’ll make an impact

Commission, install, test, and maintain high-voltage transformers and electrical systems at customer sites.

Perform maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on transformer and substation equipment.

Conduct diagnostic tests and troubleshoot electrical and control systems, including protection relays and MV panels.

Provide technical advice and support to customers, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Collaborate with engineering teams to improve product reliability and service performance.

Prepare detailed service and commissioning reports in line with company standards.

Ensure all work complies with Hitachi Energy’s strict safety rules, as well as local and industry regulations.

Build and maintain strong relationships with customers through professionalism, safety, and technical excellence.

Your background

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or a closely related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience in service, commissioning, or maintenance — including at least 2 years in high-voltage environments.

In-depth knowledge of transformer design, operation, and protection systems.

Strong electrical troubleshooting and analytical skills, with proficiency in diagnostic tools and relevant software.

Fluent in English (B2) and good knowledge of Dutch (B1) — safety communication in both languages is essential.

Demonstrated safety mindset with the ability to stop or refuse unsafe work.

Willingness to travel extensively within Belgium and occasionally abroad for service calls.
