Signatur Biosciences is establishing a new Belgium laboratory facility in Liège and seeks a highly motivated Senior Technical Assistant to drive ISO13485 compliant operations and data generation for next‑generation molecular diagnostics. You will join a small, hands-on team and report to the Head of Laboratory Operations.

The role is full-time on-site in Liège, with responsibilities including facility maintenance, instrument calibration, experiment execution, and meticulous recording per QMS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in biology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or similar.
• At least 3 years of hands-on molecular biology laboratory experience.
• Experience in start-up or diagnostic industry.
• Experience with automated PCR setup instruments.
• Familiarity with ISO13485 and biobanking requirements.
• Experience supervising laboratory staff.
• Proficiency in Python, R, Matlab or Julia.

Responsabilités

• Assist Head of Laboratory Operations with planning, supervision and coordination of laboratory activities.
• Maintain safe and effective laboratory environment through daily maintenance and housekeeping activities.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
• Order and receive laboratory supplies, equipment and apparatus.
• Assist in the storage, handling and maintenance of records with regards to biological samples.
• Be responsible for work instructions, training and maintenance of specific laboratory processes/equipment as a lab process expert.
• Contribute to the laboratory processes / procedures implementation in accordance with In Vitro Diagnostic development (ISO13485).
• Support the Head of Laboratory Operations in the implementation and monitoring of metrics (Key Performance Indicators) of laboratory efficiency & effectiveness.
• Contribute towards the continuous improvement of the laboratory facility and operations of Signatur Biosciences.
• Training and coaching of team members.
• Conduct laboratory studies in accordance with work instructions and/or study protocols including qPCR experiments manually or using high-throughput systems.
• Carry out nucleic acid extractions according to specified protocols or work instructions.
• Document experiments according to QMS requirements ensuring timely, neat, complete and accurate records.
• Coordinate the simultaneous delivery of multiple laboratory studies within projects.

Signatur Biosciences was established with the mission of making cutting-edge diagnostic tools accessible to more patients around the world. As a startup we have developed a technology to profile complex molecular signatures in a single reaction using qPCR machines already in place in every biomedical lab around the world. Signatur Biosciences is a startup with a remote workforce, predominantly in London, UK, and is establishing a new laboratory facility in Liège, Belgium.

We are seeking a highly motivated and driven Senior Technical Assistant to join our team to help establish our new Belgium laboratory facility (full time, on site). In this role, under the direction of the Head of Laboratory Operations, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining all necessary procedures and process required for a state-of-the-art ISO13485 compliant laboratory facility and for the generation of data to support the development of next generation molecular diagnostic products. You will join Signatur Biosciences at an exciting time as we are a small start-up company looking to grow. You will be part of an expanding laboratory operations team but also interact with colleagues across the company who have the shared mission to make precision diagnostics more accessible. About the role: As a Senior Technical Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operations of the laboratory by performing regular maintenance, laboratory housekeeping activities and coordinating the activities of team members. You will also be responsible for the execution and recording of laboratory experiments in accordance with specified work instructions and protocols.

Skills, Experience & Attributes

Bachelor of Science degree in biology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or similar

At least 3 years of hands-on molecular biology laboratory experience (not including course work)

Previous start-up or diagnostic industry experience

Experience in using automated PCR set-up instruments

Knowledge in the field of molecular diagnostics

Familiarity with a scientific programming language (Python, R, Matlab or Julia)

Experience of working within biobanking requirements

Experience in laboratory supervision of staff

Experience working within a Quality Management System for In Vitro Diagnostic development (ISO13485)
