Thales Avionics in Herstal, Belgium, seeks a Solid Propellant Engineer to design, develop, test, and refine SRMs for defense applications. You will work with customers, ballistics teams, and suppliers to ensure performance, safety, and quality across the product lifecycle.

The role requires 5+ years in solid propulsion, knowledge of avionics and ballistics, and experience with ANSYS/MATLAB. Fluency in English is essential; French is a plus.

Qualifications

• Min 5 years of proven experience in solid propulsion design and pyro products in aerospace & defense industry.
• Knowledge of avionics, external & internal ballistics of propellant grain, thermal analysis, fluid dynamics, mechanical design, simulations tools (ANSYS, MATLAB).
• Experience with full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture and implement).
• Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
• English (written and spoken) and French is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Develop and improve rocket motor from concept to production, covering all main sub components.
• Collaborate with customers to understand needs and requirements, develop architecture and specifications.
• Coordinate with ballistics team to translate performance requirements into propellant and SRM specs.
• Specify requirements to suppliers and manage their development, production and quality control.
• Conduct simulations, testing and evaluation of components in-house and at external facilities.
• Maintain documentation like safety, reliability analysis and FMECA.
