Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Beerse is seeking an (Senior) Scientist in Precipitation & Particle Design to engineer particle attributes of peptides for robust API characteristics. You will work within the Crystallization Technology Unit (CTU) in Beerse, focusing on amorphous precipitation, isolation, and drying, with an emphasis on peptides and scalable processes.

The role is fixed-term for 24 months, offering collaboration with top researchers, state-of-the-art facilities, and potential career progression

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Materials Science, or related field.
• Strong understanding of amorphous properties and precipitation principles.
• Hands-on lab experience with data-rich experiments and process development.
• Experience generating high-quality data to support decisions and scale-up.
• Excellent scientific communication in English, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Perform lab research into controlled precipitation and isolation for amorphous APIs.
• Evaluate different precipitation and isolation technologies and approaches.
• Design and optimize particle engineering to achieve target API characteristics.
• Develop mechanistic understanding via data-rich experiments, analytics, and modeling.
• Assess parameter impacts on precipitation, particle properties, manufacturability, and downstream processes.
• Design scalable processes from lab to pilot/production.
• Apply advanced analytical techniques (UPLC, XRD, Raman, ATR-FTIR, laser diffraction, DSC, DVS) to guide research.
• Drive amorphous precipitation process innovation through collaborations and academic partnerships.
