Job summary

Whale BV, a Ghent-based SaaS company in Belgium, seeks a Python Backend Engineer to turn product requirements into scalable features. You’ll collaborate with product and engineering to develop, test and deploy backend services, leveraging Django, REST principles and cloud-native tools.

You’ll contribute to a fast-growing team with hybrid remote work, hands-on learning, and opportunities to dive into AI frameworks and LLMs.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of Python and Django frameworks.
• Strong understanding of REST principles.
• Experience integrating 3rd party code and APIs.
• Experience using Docker, Kubernetes and Ingres.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Basic Linux skills in production environments.
• Understanding of DevOps practices and production deployments.
• Interest in AI technologies, frameworks and LLMs.

Responsibilities

• Turn product requirements and UI designs into high‑quality features with the engineering team.
• Develop, test and debug multiple applications while growing the codebase maintainably.
• Collaborate across product and engineering to deliver robust backend services.
