Cognizant in Belgium is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain secure, scalable microservice based applications using Python, Java, JavaScript and SQL.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust features and support CI with industry best practices. The role requires hands-on experience across backend and frontend components, a solid grasp of microservices, REST APIs, data modeling, and strong problem solving.

Qualifications

• 1–10 years of software engineering experience building production-ready apps.
• Strong Python proficiency with libraries and conventions.
• Hands-on Java backend experience with OO design and exceptions.
• JavaScript UI development with events, state management and API integration.
• Solid SQL knowledge: optimization, joins, indexing and data modeling.
• Understanding of microservices, stateless design and inter-service communication.
• Familiarity with source control, CI tools and automated build/deploy basics.
• Exposure to asset and wealth management domain is a plus.
• Clear communication and proactive problem solving.

Responsabilités

• Develop and maintain modular microservice components aligned with enterprise standards.
• Implement Python services for data processing and backend logic.
• Design Java service layers integrating with existing platforms and transactions.
• Build interactive JavaScript frontend features with backend integration.
• Write optimized SQL queries and data procedures across environments.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and product teams on requirements.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Create technical docs describing contracts, data flows and runbooks.
• Contribute to automated testing with unit/integration/regression tests.
• Troubleshoot defects and perform root cause analysis with validated fixes.
• Monitor application health via logs, metrics and dashboards.
• Follow secure development practices for authentication, authorization, encryption.
• Engage stakeholders to align software with evolving needs.
• Apply asset/wealth management concepts where relevant.
• Adapt to hybrid work using digital tools and in-person sessions.
