Job summary

Whale BV is Ghent-based and seeking a freelance GitLab/DevOps Engineer to speed up delivery pipelines and improve developer productivity. You will audit the current setup, define a performance plan, and implement optimizations across GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.

The role offers hybrid remote work and a builder mindset to deliver measurable improvements. We value 5+ years in production SaaS, deep GitLab CI/CD expertise, and strong Kubernetes experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of DevOps/SRE or platform engineering experience in production SaaS.
• Deep expertise in GitLab CI/CD and pipeline optimization.
• Ability to reduce CI bottlenecks via caching, parallelization, DAG optimization.
• Production Kubernetes expertise including deployments, reliability, scaling.
• Strong Bash scripting and IaC understanding.
• Experience supporting TS and Python environments.

Responsibilities

• Audit current setup and define a performance improvement plan.
• Implement optimizations across GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, and cloud infra.
• Own execution end-to-end: measurement, rollout, and iteration.
• Collaborate with product and engineering to speed up pipelines.
• Monitor, alert, and incident response workflows.
