Catalay is seeking a Design Senior Engineer Fuel & Neutronics in our Safety department to contribute to our mission by supporting our clients in the nuclear sector in Belgium.

The key responsibilities include performing engineering studies in core and fuel physics, providing expertise on fuel behaviour, neutronics and thermal-hydraulics, and coordinating across expertises while aiding tender activities and training.

Qualifications

• Civil or industrial engineer with a specialty in nuclear energy, physics or electromechanics or a B.Sc. in physics.
• 5–10 years of experience in nuclear fuel and core physics.
• Interest in widening technical competences across core physics disciplines.
• Experience with SMR, Gen 4 reactors or fast reactors is an asset.

Responsabilités

• Engineering studies in core and fuel physics using industry-standard methods and simulation tools.
• Provide expertise and contribute to developments in fuel behaviour, core neutronics, and thermal-hydraulics.
• Ensure technical coordination across areas of expertise and help draft tenders.
• Provide training on various areas of expertise and regularly report to the Group Manager.

As Design Senior Engineer Fuel & Neutronics in our Safety department you will contribute to our mission everyday by playing a crucial role in supporting our clients.

The "Core and Fuel Studies" Group within the “Nuclear Processes" Competence Centre is in charge of the activities related to the fuel cycle, core design, fuel safety evaluation and core exploitation support for nuclear reactors for the Belgian Utility.

The group is subdivided into three operational subgroups, each one under the responsibility of a sub-group leader :

• Neutronic studies & Tools: incorporating all activities related to Criticality, Shielding, Activation, Residual Heat
• Core Multiphysics, Methods & Support

Your key responsibilities

• Engineering studies in the domain of core and fuel physics using industry-standard methods and simulation tools;
• Provide expertise and participate to the developments of core and fuel activities in the field of fuel behaviour and/or core neutronics and/or thermal-hydraulics, including multiphysics approaches;
• Ensure technical coordination across various areas of expertises and participate in drafting call for tenders;
• Provide training on various areas of expertise;
• Regularly report to the Group Manager on all aspects of the relevant domain.

PROFILE

• You are a civil or industrial engineer, specialized in nuclear energy, physics or electromechanics, or B.Sc. in physics.
• You have experience of 5-10 years in the nuclear fuel and core physics.
