ENGIE Group's Tractebel unit is recruiting for a civil/industrial engineer or physicist focused on Core & Fuel studies, safety evaluation, and multiphysics. The role blends core physics, fuel safety, and reactor physics with opportunities to contribute to R&D and tender activities.

Qualifications

• Civil or industrial engineer degree, or B.Sc. in physics.
• 5–10 years of experience in nuclear fuel and core physics.
• Interest in widening technical competences across core physics disciplines.
• Proficiency in IT, especially Python; willing to learn quickly.
• Expertise in SMRs, Gen 4 reactors, fast reactors is an asset.
• Fluent in English and French or Dutch, with good knowledge of the other.
• Self-verification with a rigorous mind and delivering quality within tight schedules.
• Good listener, dynamic and team-oriented.

Responsabilités

• Engineering studies in core and fuel physics using industry-standard methods and simulation tools.
• Provide expertise and participate in developments of core physics activities in fuel behaviour, core neutronics and/or thermal-hydraulics, including multiphysics approaches.
• Participate in R&D projects related to Core Physics applications.
• Write engineering and synthesis reports of analyses.
• Ensure technical coordination across areas of expertise and contribute to calls for tenders and business growth.
• Provide training on various areas of expertise.
• Regularly report to the Group Manager on all aspects of the relevant domain.

The "Core and Fuel Studies" Group within the “Nuclear Industrial Safety" Competence Centre is a multidisciplinary team working on nuclear fuel, reactor physics and the preparation of dismantling activities. As such, the Core & Fuel Studies Group is in charge of Tractebel’s activities related to the fuel cycle, core design and safety evaluation for nuclear reactors. The team performs criticality and shielding calculations for spent fuel, as well as activation calculations. The team is responsible for Fuel Safety studies and develops Multiphysics capabilities for various products, such as SMRs.

• Cycles studies: incorporating activities related to core physics, fuel cycle, core design, safety evaluation and plant operational support;
• Neutronic studies: incorporating all activities related to criticality, shielding, activation and residual heat;
• Core Multiphysics: incorporating all activities related Multiphysics (fuel thermo-mechanics, thermal-hydraulics, reactor physics), encompassing cross-cutting activities and common projects within the range of Core & Fuel studies expertise.

Your key responsibilities

In the Core and Fuel group, you will be in charge of Core and Fuel physics studies and associated developments in the domains of Fuel Safety and Core Multiphysics.

The main tasks in these areas are:

• Engineering studies in the domain of Core and Fuel physics using industry-standard methods and simulation tools;
• Providing expertise and participating in the developments of Core and Fuel activities in the field of fuel behaviour and/or core neutronics and/or thermal-hydraulics, including multiphysics approaches;
• Participating in R&D projects related to Core Physics applications
• Writing engineering and synthesis reports of your analyses
• Ensuring technical coordination across various areas of expertise and participating in drafting calls for tenders and contributing to business growth
• Providing training on various areas of expertise;
• Regularly reporting to the Group Manager on all aspects of the relevant domain.

We would love to hear from people with

• You are a civil or industrial engineer, specialized in nuclear energy, physics or electromechanics, or B.Sc. in physics.
• You have 5-10 years of experience in nuclear fuel and core physics
• You are interested in widening your technical competences across various disciplines of core physics
• You have proficiency in IT (with an emphasis python programming), or are willing to learn this quickly
• Expertise in SMRs, Gen 4 reactors, fast reactors is an asset
• You speak English and French or Dutch with a good practice of the other language.
• You apply self-verification with a rigorous mind and you deliver quality within tight schedules.
• You are good listener, dynamic and enjoy working in a team.
