Pauwels Consulting seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to design and maintain scalable backend services in a hybrid Brussels-based role. The position focuses on Java, Node.js, and TypeScript within an event-driven architecture, with collaboration across agile teams and a strong emphasis on code quality and observability.

The role includes leadership responsibilities, mentoring teammates, and driving CI/CD improvements.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with Java
• 5+ years with Node.js and TypeScript
• 5+ years in event-based architectures, API design, and integration patterns
• 5+ years in Agile product environments and technical consultancy
• Strong coding, testing, and debugging of complex backend systems
• Experience leading development teams and mentoring engineers
• Fluent Dutch at level C2

Responsabilités

• Design and implement scalable backend components and APIs within an event-based architecture.
• Collaborate with cross-functional agile teams to translate product requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, observability, and operational excellence across all services.
• Manage the end-to-end development lifecycle from analysis to production monitoring and support.
• Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for stable deployments.
• Coach team members and promote engineering best practices.
