Job summary

Community Consulting in Brussels is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join the Digital Innovation / AI Center of Excellence during build and hypercare of complex AI projects. You will collaborate with a platform architect, another senior engineer, and cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready AI services.

The role requires deep hands-on experience with Python, Azure OpenAI, RAG, AKS, Terraform, and Azure DevOps, plus fluent English and strong Dutch or French language skills.

Qualifications

• Proven Python development in AI projects.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and retrieval strategies.
• Develop data ingestion pipelines with connectors, chunking and embeddings.
• Implement security trimming and ACL propagation.
• Build agent orchestration, prompts, and guardrails using Python and LangChain.
• Create evaluation frameworks and metrics for AI services.
• Configure tracing for AI requests and agent execution.
• Maintain Terraform, Helm and Azure DevOps deployment artefacts.
• Monitor latency, token use, costs and AI quality regressions.
• Support hypercare and early production operations.
• Produce runbooks and handover documentation.

Our client, a major public transport operator based in Brussels, is developing advanced AI services for employees and customers across the organization.

We are looking for a Senior AI Engineer to join the Digital Innovation / AI Center of Excellence during the build and hypercare phases of complex AI projects.

You will collaborate with an internal AI Platform Architect, another Senior AI Engineer, and multidisciplinary project teams to transform AI solutions into reliable, evaluated, secure, and maintainable production services.

The AI Platform combines managed Azure AI services with open-source components deployed on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), using Python, LangChain, MLflow, Databricks, Terraform, and Azure DevOps

Responsibilities

• Design and implement end-to-end Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, including retrieval strategies and answer generation.
• Develop data ingestion pipelines with source connectors, document chunking, embeddings, and incremental refresh.
• Implement security trimming and Access Control List (ACL) propagation.
• Build agent orchestration workflows, prompt templates, and AI guardrails using Python and LangChain.
• Implement evaluation frameworks, offline evaluation datasets, retrieval and answer-quality metrics.
• Configure end-to-end tracing for requests and AI agent execution.
• Develop and maintain Terraform, Helm, and Azure DevOps deployment artefacts.
• Monitor latency, token consumption, operational costs, and AI quality regressions.
• Support hypercare and early production operations, including incident analysis and performance tuning.
• Produce runbooks and technical documentation, ensuring effective handover to the engineer responsible for ongoing operations.

Must have

• Advanced hands-on experience with Python.
• Advanced experience with Azure OpenAI Service and Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Advanced expertise in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
• Advanced experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Advanced knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Advanced proficiency in Azure DevOps.
• Intermediate experience with vector databases or vector search technologies.
• Intermediate experience with LangChain.
• Recent hands-on experience with Python, Azure OpenAI, LLMs, RAG, AKS, Terraform, Azure DevOps, and vector databases.
• Native or bilingual proficiency in French or Dutch.
• Full professional proficiency in English.

Should have

• Practical experience developing and operating production-ready AI services.
• Experience implementing document ingestion, embeddings, retrieval strategies, and access-control mechanisms.
• Experience with agent orchestration, prompt engineering, and AI guardrails.
• Knowledge of AI evaluation, tracing, observability, and cost monitoring.
• Experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Search, Azure API Management, and Azure AI Content Safety.
• Experience with MLflow and Databricks for evaluation and tracing.
• Experience deploying containerized applications with Helm on Kubernetes.
• Ability to collaborate with solution architects, business analysts, and project managers.
