As a Scientific Expert in Earth Observation, you contribute to the scientific design, evolution and credibility of operational EO services. You work at the interface between science, engineering and stakeholders, helping ensure that EO products, indicators and processing chains are scientifically robust, traceable and fit for institutional use.
Your work combines scientific expertise with operational thinking. You support service delivery and service evolution by strengthening algorithms, validation methods, documentation and collaboration across international technical teams.
Contribute to the scientific design, maintenance and evolution of EO services and processing chains
Translate user, policy and service requirements into robust EO products and environmental indicators
Ensure the scientific quality, consistency, traceability and documentation of algorithms, methods and outputs
Perform validation activities, uncertainty analysis and performance assessments of EO products
Collaborate with software engineers, service operators and external partners to connect scientific expertise with operational delivery
We are looking for a scientifically rigorous and collaborative expert who combines Earth Observation knowledge with strong analytical skills, operational awareness and clear communication in international, multidisciplinary environments.
Hold a PhD or MSc with strong experience in Earth Observation, Remote Sensing, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences or a related field
Bring a solid understanding of satellite data, biophysical variables and environmental indicators
Have mandatory experience processing and analysing spatial data in Python, including visualization
Bring experience with operational or pre-operational EO services as a strong asset
Show familiarity with Copernicus Services and good knowledge of optical satellite data and related processing methods as a plus
Excellent written and spoken English is required; Dutch is a plus.
