Puratos is seeking a Safety & Belgium Fire Protection Engineer to join the Health, Safety & Environment team at Groot-Bijgaarden. You will combine hands-on safety expertise with fire protection excellence for our Belgian operations, spanning production, warehousing, lab, bakery and office environments.

The role focuses on leading safety programmes, managing fire protection systems, and guiding CAPEX projects, while fostering a proactive safety culture across sites.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent technical/scientific qualification is required.
• Certified Prevention Advisor Level 2 is required or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of Health & Safety experience in manufacturing/industrial environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Autonomy and hands-on approach with problem-solving mindset.
• Fluent in Dutch with good knowledge of French and English.

Responsabilités

• Lead and continuously improve safety and prevention programmes across the Groot-Bijgaarden site.
• Manage and optimize fire protection systems including detection, sprinklers, extinguishing and gas detection.
• Act as regional BeOps Fire Protection Expert supporting Belgian sites with audits and guidance during projects.
• Perform risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses and preventive action plans.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities and drills with authorities and fire brigades.
• Deliver impactful safety training and foster a proactive safety culture.
• Drive safety governance of CAPEX and engineering projects from concept to commissioning.
• Report monthly and yearly safety performance and action plans.

Functional area Health, Safety and Environment

To strengthen our Health, Safety & Environment team at Puratos Groot-Bijgaarden, we are looking for a Safety & Belgium Fire Protection Engineer who plays a key role in protecting our people, facilities and operations. In this position, you will combine hands‑on safety expertise with contributing to fire protection excellence within our Belgian operations organization. At Groot‑Bijgaarden site, we offer a various work environment of production, warehousing, lab, bakery and office environment.

Key Accountabilities

• You lead, implement and continuously improve safety and prevention programmes to achieve world‑class Safety & Health performance across our Groot‑Bijgaarden site.
• You manage and optimize fire protection systems , including detection, sprinkler, extinguishing and gas detection systems, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements and Belgian legislation.
• You act as the regional beOps Fire Protection Expert , supporting Belgian sites, conducting audits and providing expert guidance during engineering and investment projects.
• You perform risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses and develop preventive action plans that strengthen operational safety performance.
• You coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including emergency response plans, first intervention teams and exercises with external authorities and fire brigades.
• You deliver impactful safety training , coach employees and stakeholders, and help foster a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
• You drive the safety governance of CAPEX and engineering projects , ensuring that safety‑by‑design principles, risk assessments and legal requirements are embedded from concept through commissioning.
• You report results on a frequent base (monthly report, scorecard, yearly report) and definition and follow‑up of action plans to maintain and further improve the site Safety & Health performance.

Who are we looking for?

• You hold a master’s degree or equivalent technical/scientific qualification and are a certified Prevention Advisor Level 2.
• You bring 3-5 years of experience in Health & Safety, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience or strong affinity with fire protection systems, fire prevention or process safety is highly valued.
• You are a strong communicator who can influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• You combine autonomy and ownership with a pragmatic, hands‑on approach to problem solving.
• You are fluent in Dutch and have a good working knowledge of French and English.
• You are passionate about continuous improvement and motivated to make a visible impact on safety performance and employee wellbeing.
