Resident Senior Design Engineer – Doel

As Resident Senior Design Engineer – Doel in our Design Brussels Civil Works department of the Metier ‘Civil Engineering & Infra’, part of the Business Area Gas, Energy and Nuclear, you will contribute to a wide variety of civil engineering design activities, covering the full life cycle of projects from conceptual to construction follow‑up.

Responsibilities

• Design and verify the design of others, including performing structural analyses and dynamic analyses of nuclear structures to various hazards (earthquake, gas explosion, tornado, airplane crash).
• Interface with drafting office and other METIERS in a multidisciplinary approach.
• Contribute to writing technical specifications and reviewing contractor documents (method statements, calculation notes).
• Ensure commitment to scope and schedule in design activities.
• Mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• A Civil Engineering degree with at least 20 years of experience in structural analysis and design.
• Experience with general purpose Finite Element and structural codes (ANSYS, SCIA, etc.) for static and dynamic loads, linear or non‑linear analysis.
• Hands‑on mentality for delivering industrial structures with required quality and schedule.
• Curiosity to learn about nuclear business, safety, quality assurance and structural engineering challenges.
• Knowledge of international codes and standards (Eurocodes, ASCE, ACI, USNRC SRP and RG).
• Willingness to invest in a long‑term assignment and work in an industrial environment demanding checks and balances.
• Scientific mindset, rigorous, good communication in Dutch, English and French a plus; strong technical writing skills; experience mentoring junior engineers.
