CluePoints in Belgium is seeking a Research Software Engineer to bridge research and software engineering, turning statistical and algorithmic concepts into robust, production-grade software. You will develop high-performance C++ applications and Python tooling that power our analytics platform.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficient in modern C++ (C++17 or later).
  • Proficient in Python 3.
  • Experience in Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems.
  • Knowledge of unit testing and software quality practices.
  • Experience with MySQL and/or MongoDB.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in AI-assisted development tools.

Responsabilités

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance C++ components in Linux.
  • Translate research prototypes and algorithms into scalable software solutions.
  • Develop Python scripts and tooling to support validation, automation, testing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Build reliable software capable of processing large-scale datasets efficiently.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests for software quality.
  • Contribute to software architecture and technical design discussions.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and memory usage.
  • Collaborate with researchers, statisticians, product managers, and engineers throughout the lifecycle.
  • Support validation and deployment of new analytical methods and models.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools to accelerate development and improve code quality.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects related to automation and data processing.

Role:

As a Research Software Engineer, you will bridge the gap between research and software engineering, transforming statistical and algorithmic concepts into robust, production-grade software. Working closely with researchers, statisticians, and engineers, you will develop high-performance C++ applications and Python-based tooling that power CluePoints’ core clinical trial analytics platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working with data-intensive systems, and applying software engineering best practices in a research-driven environment.

Job Requirements
  • 2–5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 or later).
  • Good knowledge of Python 3.
  • Experience developing software in Linux environments.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems.
  • Knowledge of unit testing and software quality practices.
  • Experience working with MySQL and/or MongoDB.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and translate mathematical, statistical, or algorithmic concepts into efficient software solutions.
  • Interest in leveraging AI-assisted development tools as part of the engineering workflow.
Nice to Have
  • Exposure to scientific computing, numerical methods, simulation, optimisation, or data-intensive applications.
  • Familiarity with R.
  • Experience working in research-oriented or computational environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
  • Knowledge of Conan2, CMake, and Makefiles.
  • Background in Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience working within a SaaS environment.

  • Contribute to ad hoc projects related to automation, machine learning, data processing, and research innovation.
