Google Brussels, Belgium seeks a Regulatory Counsel, Content to drive regulatory risk management for product and policy teams across Europe. You will interpret laws and work with cross‑functional partners to balance innovation with compliance.

Work focuses on EU content regulation, regulator engagement, and shaping governance while supporting responsible product development and user protections across the region.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a JD/LLB or equivalent and be admitted to the bar in an EU member state.
  • 7 years attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience with EU content regulation such as the DSA, AVMSD and EMEA frameworks.

  • Shape laws and interpret compliance obligations for Compliance, Business, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Provide legal advice on compliance programs and policies to mitigate risk.
  • Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on compliance readiness.

Advanced

Experience owning outcomes and decision making, solving ambiguous problems and influencing stakeholders; deep expertise in domain.

Minimum qualifications:
  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in an EU member state.
  • 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience with EU level content regulation such as the Digital Services Act, Audiovisual Media Services Directive and European Media Freedom Act.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience engaging with regulators, including content or consumer protection authorities.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, including strategically addressing, minimizing and avoiding regulatory risk in a technology company.
  • Experience with managing product launches, developing and maintaining compliance programs that ensure products comply with laws and external commitments, and partnering with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with knowledge of technical issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, problem-solving, and investigative skills.

Regulatory Affairs helps the company innovate responsibly and comply with laws around the world. We partner with teams across Global Affairs, Product Areas, and the rest of the company to ensure constructive engagement with governments and regulators while mitigating risk.

As a Regulatory Counsel, Content, you will join a Global team, focusing on the EMEA region, that provides subject matter expertise and engages with regulators, academics, and others to consider the role of content law in our changing economy, the development of new technology, and passage of new laws and regulations. You will be interpreting laws, partnering with internal stakeholders across the company to mitigate risk, and helping communicate our compliance externally.

Belgium: €200000 - €205000 (EUR) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits
