As Regulatory & Compliance Manager, you will co-own the compliance framework end-to-end and work directly in the detail alongside the Compliance Officer. This is not a role that manages a team. Instead, you will play a central role in a lean and highly effective compliance function where ownership, autonomy and hands-on execution are key.
The setup is deliberately lean. Hummingbird invests heavily in top-tier outsourced partners and an advanced compliance and technology infrastructure, enabling a small team to oversee a complex regulatory environment, including a licensed Belgian AIFM structure, multiple funds and an international investor base.
This position offers a unique opportunity for an ambitious compliance professional who wants to take broad responsibility, gain direct exposure to senior stakeholders and further develop within a leading international investment platform.
Main Responsibilities
You will:
- Own and continuously develop the firm's Compliance and Risk Framework as a licensed Belgian AIFM, including compliance risk assessments, the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan (CMP), periodic compliance reporting, AMLCO reporting, internal control reporting and Board reporting.
- Track regulatory developments, including AIFMD, AML/CFT, DORA, SFDR and related legislation, and lead implementation of new requirements from analysis through to rollout.
- Run AML/CFT activities directly and hands-on, including periodic KYC reviews, investor onboarding, sanctions and PEP screening, and regulatory reporting.
- Act as a primary point of contact with regulators, including regulatory submissions, questionnaires, supervisory communications and inspections.
- Oversee outsourced service providers and ICT providers, including risk assessment and ongoing monitoring.
- Provide hands-on compliance support across fund operations, including investment compliance reviews, investment monitoring, conflicts of interest assessments, fundraising, LP onboarding and share transfers.
- Partner closely with the Board of Directors and the Compliance Officer to shape and strengthen the compliance function.
Profile
The successful candidate combines strong compliance expertise with a pragmatic and hands-on mindset. You enjoy taking ownership, working autonomously and contributing directly to the development of a growing international organisation.
In addition:
- You have approximately 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in compliance and/or risk management within asset management, private equity, venture capital or another regulated financial services environment.
- Direct AIFM experience is considered a strong asset.
- You possess solid working knowledge of AIFMD, AML/CFT, DORA and SFDR and are comfortable owning implementation initiatives, not just monitoring them.
- You have experience managing regulatory relationships directly, including inspections and supervisory queries with the FSMA or comparable regulators.
- You are comfortable combining strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- You enjoy remaining close to the operational reality and do not hesitate to handle KYC reviews, onboarding files and screening activities yourself when required.
- You are looking for a role offering broader ownership, visibility and impact within a dynamic international investment environment.
- You are fluent in English. You have an excellent knowledge of French and/or Dutch.
Offer
Hummingbird offers a unique opportunity to join one of Europe's leading venture capital firms and to play a key role in a sophisticated and internationally active investment platform.
In return, you will benefit from:
- Direct exposure to the full scope of a licensed AIFM's compliance function, with real ownership from day one.
- A close working relationship with the Board of Directors and the Compliance Officer, with direct access to decision-makers and limited hierarchy.
- Significant responsibility, autonomy and visibility within the organisation.
- Top-tier outsourced service providers and a well-invested compliance technology infrastructure, allowing you to focus on judgement, analysis and execution rather than administrative overhead.
- Exposure to fund operations, fundraising activities and portfolio investments across Europe and beyond.
- A dynamic, entrepreneurial and intellectually stimulating environment where you can continue to grow and develop professionally.
- A competitive remuneration package aligned with the responsibilities of the role.
