IMEC seeks an R&D Lab Assistant to advance nanotechnology research at its Leuven, Belgium headquarters. You will prepare samples, conduct advanced measurements, and support a world-class lab with modern characterization tools.

You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, multicultural setting, ensuring accuracy and reliability in experimental work while contributing to process automation and workflow optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Hands-on work in measurement laboratories and supportive experimental work across research programs.
  • Well organized with ability to plan, multi-task, and prioritise in a dynamic environment.
  • English proficiency is required for collaboration across international teams.

Responsabilités

  • Prepare samples for analysis: epoxy embedding, polishing, cross-section prep.
  • Characterize materials with FTIR, metrology systems, microscopes, profilometry, and optical systems.
  • Conduct mechanical reliability testing, including shear testing.
  • Support the XSEM laboratory with sample preparation and measurements.
  • Perform EBSD measurements and data collection.
  • Contribute to automation and optimization of measurement workflows.
  • Coordinate logistics and handling of samples, materials, and consumables.
  • Maintain lab infrastructure and equipment for a safe, organized environment.
  • Manage laboratory orders, POs, and supplier interactions, inventory of chemicals and consumables.

What you will do

In this hands‑on role, you will play a key part in advancing innovative research projects by preparing and analysing samples, conducting laboratory experiments, and operating state‑of‑the‑art characterization equipment that drives breakthrough developments in next‑generation 3D technologies.

As An R&D Lab Assistant, You Will
  • Prepare samples for analysis, including epoxy embedding, polishing, and cross‑section preparation.
  • Perform material characterization and measurements using advanced laboratory equipment such as FTIR, Veeco metrology systems, Keyence microscope, Dektak profilometry tools, and Nova optical measurement systems.
  • Conduct mechanical reliability testing, including shear testing.
  • Support the XSEM laboratory through sample preparation and measurement activities.
  • Perform Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) measurements and data collection.
  • Contribute to the automation and optimization of measurement workflows to improve laboratory efficiency.
  • Coordinate logistics and manual handling of samples, materials, and laboratory consumables.
  • Maintain laboratory infrastructure and equipment to ensure a safe, organized, and high‑performing work environment.
  • Manage laboratory orders, purchase orders (POs), and supplier interactions. Coordinate the ordering and inventory management of chemicals and consumables.

Who you are
  • You hold a Professional Bachelor's degree in a technical field or have acquired equivalent expertise through relevant technical experience.
