Project Leader Substation - Offshore Wind
Function
To contribute to Europe and Belgium’s ambitions for the Energy Transition, Elia has foreseen extending its offshore high voltage grid by constructing the Princess Elisabeth Energy Island. The grid shall connect the new Belgian windfarms situated within the “Princess Elisabeth Windfarm zone”. Elia is currently building and constructing an artificial energy island (with offshore transmission infrastructure), multiple AC substations at 66 kV & 220 kV (the windfarms are to be connected at the 66 kV level), and six 220 kV AC export cable systems of ~50 km each to be connected to the onshore substation GEZEL.
Job Description
- You report to the HVAC substation package manager.
- You will develop and implement the strategy for the Elia HVAC equipment on the island and the windfarm interface.
- You will lead a multi‑disciplinary team of project leaders, project engineers and experts who manage the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the HVAC equipment on the island (GIS 66 kV, GIS 220 kV, transformers, shunts, high‑voltage cables and protection cubicles).
- You will lead the interaction with the offshore windfarms.
- Co‑develop technical framework as input for windfarm tenders.
- Perform role of technical SPOC during the windfarm tender process.
- Write client detailed studies.
- Follow up on engineering and construction of the windfarms (as TSO).
- Responsible for HVAC equipment on the island and the windfarms.
- Provide status and progress reporting.
- Ensure an inherently safe and ergonomic design and execution.
- Organise readiness/quality gates.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, RFIs (Requests For Information), NCs (Nonconformities) and SIMOPS (simultaneous operations).
- Coordinate interfaces with other packages (e.g., offshore cable package, island package, other Elia departments).
- Act as a safety leader, continuously looking for technical improvements and for safety enhancements by making a proactive contribution to the feedback process.
- Ensure timely delivery as well as quality and safety of assigned tasks.
- Cooperate and coordinate with multi‑disciplinary team of experts and internal/external consultants.
- Perform regular reports regarding status and progress of assigned tasks.
- Represent Elia towards different stakeholders.
Your Profile
- You are a qualified civil or industrial engineer specialising in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- You have at least 4 years of experience with high‑voltage substation projects.
- Experience with GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), transformers and shunt reactors as well as secondary systems.
- Experience in offshore projects is a plus.
- You have project‑management experience and expertise in high‑voltage matters.
- You are fluent in English and Dutch; French is a plus.
- You have a keen sense of responsibility and excellent organisational skills.
- You are a smooth, assertive communicator and a resourceful, customer‑oriented team player.
- You are a quick learner.
