Elia Group is seeking a Junior Expert Digital Substations to contribute to the development and deployment of advanced digital technologies in Elia’s substations. You will join the Virtual Substations team and help shape the substations of tomorrow.

You will design and engineer digital PAC systems, model IEC 61850 data using SCL, and collaborate with experts and manufacturers to deliver innovative solutions, while growing your knowledge in protection and control engineering.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Electromechanical/Automation Engineering or equivalent
• Fluent in English and either Dutch or French
• Interest in digital substations and protection & control systems
• Willingness to learn SCL modelling and PAC engineering lifecycle
• Familiarity with IEC 61850 is a plus
• Strong analytical and communication skills

Responsabilités

The Virtual Substations team is a growing team that is paving the way for the implementation of advanced digital technology in Elia’s substations. As part of this long-term initiative, the team evaluates technological solutions, engineering methodologies, and supporting tools required for the successful deployment of digital substations based on the IEC 61850 standard. The team works closely with internal stakeholders, equipment manufacturers, software vendors, research institutes and other utilities to develop innovative and efficient solutions.

Junior Expert Digital Substations: what's in the name?

We need you to:

• Support the design and engineering of digital Protection, Automation and Control (PAC) systems for high-voltage substations.
• Develop and maintain IEC 61850 system models and engineering data, including Substation Configuration Language (SCL) files.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering methodologies, processes and tools used for digital substations.
• Support testing, simulation and validation activities to ensure compliance with IEC 61850 requirements and project specifications.
• Collaborate with internal experts, manufacturers and integrators to resolve technical challenges and implement innovative solutions.
• Prepare technical documentation, engineering guidelines and reports, and present technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.

Your Profile

Are you ready to convince us of your talent as a Junior Expert Digital Substations? Do the check!

• Do you have a degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, Automation Engineering, or equivalent through experience? Check!
• Are you fluent in English and either of the Belgian national languages (Dutch or French)? Check!
• Do you have a strong interest in digital substations and protection & control systems? Check!
• Are you interested in learning how PAC systems are modelled using SCL and engineered throughout their lifecycle? Check!
• As a plus, do you know the fundamentals of the IEC 61850 standard, including data models, communication principles and engineering concepts? Check!
• Do you have strong analytical skills and enjoy solving technical challenges? Check!
• Are you a good communicator, able to write clear and well-structured reports and explain complex technical concepts to non-specialists? Check!
• Are you pragmatic and results-oriented, while remaining curious and eager to learn? Check!
• Do you enjoy working both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team? Check!

Offer

• Salary: a competitive salary package, allowance for representation expenses, year-end bonus, double vacation pay, meal vouchers (€10 per working day), eco-vouchers, year-end vouchers as well as bonuses based on individual and group results.
