Product Software Engineer — End-to-End, Backend Focus

Job summary

Be-Mobile, a Ghent-based leader in smart mobility, is seeking an experienced Product Software Engineer who will own end-to-end software solutions. You’ll work with Product to translate real-world needs into robust, maintainable software and decide how to build within our architectural standards and engineering best practices.

This role focuses on backend development while enabling collaboration across the stack.

Qualifications

• Strong backend foundation and ability to contribute across the stack.
• Proven experience designing, building, deploying and operating production software.
• Understanding of SaaS concepts like authentication, authorization, API design and multi-tenancy.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerization and automated deployments.
• Ability to reason about architecture and trade-offs, not just patterns.
• Strong ownership; able to investigate root causes and decide on solutions.
• Product mindset: focus on solving the right problem, not just features.
• Ability to explain technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Golang, Vue.js, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch; quick to learn new tech.
• Curiosity about AI in software engineering.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of product features from analysis to deployment and follow-up.
• Own a product domain and act as the technical reference for it.
• Build and maintain software across the stack with a strong backend focus.
• Translate product and business needs into scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Work with Product Owners as a technical counterpart and balance value, complexity and sustainability.
• Question requirements to find simpler, better solutions.
• Ensure software runs reliably in production and own post-deployment outcomes.
• Contribute to architecture, testing, CI/CD, deployment and reliability practices.
• Use AI-assisted development where it boosts productivity and quality.
• Share knowledge and raise the team’s technical level.
