Function

Elia Group is facing one of its biggest challenges enabling the energy transition and supporting the massive electrification of society while ensuring a reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity system. Within Grid Development (GD), this requires establishing the digital, data and analytical foundations needed for smarter investment decisions, faster study execution and more resilient grid planning, including a trusted and transparent scenario management capability. The SGS (Scenarios & Grid Studies Solutions) product line is responsible for providing the digital capabilities that support the full lifecycle of scenario and grid studies management. SGS ensures the efficient handling of scenario and study data, delivers advanced grid calculation and analysis tools to streamline simulations and assessments, and manages system needs, planning storylines, long-term grid development portfolios, and user-facing planning workspaces. By integrating these capabilities within a single product organization, SGS enables a consistent, efficient, and data-driven approach to grid planning and decision-making.

The Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value delivered by one of the three SGS Product Teams within the SGS Product Line. They translate the product vision into a clear, prioritized and delivery-ready backlog, ensuring that user stories and acceptance criteria reflect customer and end-user needs while supporting Grid Development's digital transformation ambitions. Acting as the bridge between Grid Development experts and digital delivery teams, the Product Owner translates business needs and long-term grid planning challenges into clear priorities and actionable product requirements. The role combines product vision, continuous discovery, backlog ownership, release planning, stakeholder alignment, quality assurance, adoption follow-up and continuous improvement.

The Product Owner works closely with the SGS Product Line, Grid Development experts, Business Analysts, Solution Architects, IT and Data delivery teams. Together, they build modular, reusable and customer-centric digital, data and decision-support solutions that strengthen Elia's capability to design the future grid and make informed long-term investment decisions.

For the above-mentioned product line, we are looking for a Product Owner.

Your main activities
  • Define and communicate the product vision, priorities and roadmap for the assigned SGS product team, aligned with SGS product line strategy and objectives.
  • Own, prioritize and continuously improve the backlog, ensuring clear epics, user stories, acceptance criteria and value-driven delivery choices.
  • Run continuous discovery with Grid Development expert communities and end users - problem framing, assumption testing, usage and outcome data - so that what the team builds is grounded in validated need, and make the reasoning behind priority choices explicit to stakeholders and to the delivery team.
  • Coordinate sprint and release planning with the other SGS Product Owners, surfacing and resolving the dependencies affecting your team so that releases stay coherent across SGS.
  • Align stakeholders across SGS, GD, IT, Data and expert communities, translating business needs into product outcomes and keeping expectations clear on scope, value and product direction.
  • Accept completed user stories, ensure testing and documentation are sufficient, and support and monitor the adoption of delivered capabilities by GD users.
  • Promote Agile ways of working, continuous improvement and pragmatic innovation to improve efficiency, data quality and study execution.
Your Profile
  • Master level or equivalent by experience, with proven experience as Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst or similar role in an Agile, digital or product-oriented environment.
  • Strong understanding of the energy sector and TSO Grid Development context, including grid studies, scenarios, long-term planning and portfolio prioritization. Candidates from other regulated, infrastructure or data-intensive environments who can build that depth quickly are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with data products, analytical tools, workflow digitalisation, decision-support tooling or productisation of business-critical tools is a strong asset.
  • Able to translate expert user needs into clear product outcomes, backlog priorities and acceptance criteria, while making pragmatic trade-offs between value, feasibility, risk and delivery constraints, supported by qualitative and quantitative evidence.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-alignment skills, with credibility to guide a multidisciplinary team without hierarchical authority.
  • Fluent in English and able to communicate professionally in Dutch and/or French.
  • Collaborative, improvement-oriented mindset, fostering transparency, experimentation, continuous learning and leadership behaviors.
Offer
  • Salary a competitive salary package, allowance for representation expenses, year-end bonus, double vacation pay, meal vouchers (€10 per working day), eco-vouchers, sport & culture vouchers, bonuses based on individual and group results.
