Tokyo Electron Europe Ltd. – Belgium Branch is seeking a highly skilled researcher to advance plasma etching for semiconductor technologies.

You will design and run experiments, analyze results, and transfer learning to TEL factory engineers to enable new leading-edge tools for TEL customers. The role requires a PhD or MSc with significant industrial semiconductor experience, hands-on cleanroom work, and fluency with materials characterization techniques.

Qualifications

  • PhD required in relevant fields; MSc with 5+ years experience also acceptable.
  • 3–5 years of experimental semiconductor process experience, esp. plasma etching.
  • Experience with materials characterization and cleanroom processing.

Responsabilités

  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments for plasma etching process development.
  • Develop novel processes for logic, memory, and emerging devices.
  • Set up procedures and equipment configurations; hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with partners and internal stakeholders on leading-edge processes.
  • Identify IP opportunities and prepare disclosures for patents.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Job Description

TEL is actively engaged in leading edge technology joint development projects in collaboration with imec. We have an opening in our Etch Business Unit to enable research and development of innovative processes and advancements in plasma etching for semiconductor technologies. In this role, you will collaborate with key stakeholders to demonstrate feasibility of new process technologies. This includes transferring process learning and providing guidance to TEL factory engineers to create innovative leading-edge tools and processes for TEL’s customers.

Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments to conduct research, development, and optimization of plasma etching processes and related technologies.
  • Develop novel processes and applications in the areas of logic, memory and emerging semiconductor devices and technologies.
  • Establish procedures, equipment configurations and adopt a hands-on approach to sustain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Collaborate with industry partners, research consortia, material suppliers and internal stakeholders to develop leading edge plasma etching processes and products for TEL.
  • Identify potential intellectual property opportunities and ensure timely disclosures to build and maintain a strong patent portfolio.
  • Domestic and international travel, as necessary for internal and external meetings.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • PhD is required in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, preferably with education or experience related to semiconductors. Alternatively, a MSc in related fields with more than 5 years of industrial experience in semiconductor technologies.
  • 3 to 5 years of experimental experience in semiconductor related processes, especially in plasma etching and related techniques. May include graduate work toward a degree.
  • Demonstrates understanding of semiconductor technology and/or process equipment technology.
  • Familiar with materials characterization techniques such as CD‑SEM, SEM, AFM, TEM, Ellipsometry and electrical characterization.
  • Ability to work daily in a cleanroom environment with hands-on processing using research systems for process development.
  • Able to independently manage process development projects, solve problems and drive results.

  • Individual pay is determined based on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skills, job‑related knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and/or training.
