NCIM is seeking a Principal Solution Engineer to lead architecture design, requirements management, and systems development for large-scale initiatives. You will guide architecture principles, manage trade-offs, and communicate decisions to senior stakeholders.

The role requires leading multidisciplinary teams, deep knowledge of mobile and deployable infrastructure, MBSE, and governance integration across the full lifecycle. On-site work in Belgium with NATO-grade security context.

Competenze

• Master’s degree with 5+ years post-graduate experience or Bachelor’s with 8+ years
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams
• Strong knowledge of mobile and deployable communication infrastructure technologies
• Experience with architecture modelling languages and MBSE
• ITIL Foundation and PRINCE2 Foundation or PMP preferred

Duties & Responsibilities

The Principal Solution Engineer will be responsible for leading architecture design, requirements management, and systems development activities across complex and large-scale initiatives. Key duties include:

Solution Architecture

• Lead the design and development of end-to-end solution architectures aligned with business and operational requirements.
• Define and enforce architectural principles, standards, and best practices.
• Manage architectural trade-offs, balancing functional, performance, security, and operational requirements.
• Ensure alignment and consistency of architecture across multiple projects and programmes.
• Communicate architectural decisions and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Maintain a stable, scalable, and compliant architecture baseline.

Requirements Definition & Management

• Lead scoping, requirements elicitation, analysis, prioritisation, and validation activities.
• Apply and tailor appropriate requirements engineering methodologies, tools, and techniques.
• Establish and maintain requirements baselines and traceability.
• Engage with diverse stakeholders to gather, validate, and agree requirements.
• Manage requirement changes, conflicts, and competing priorities.
• Contribute to organisational standards and best practices in requirements management.

Systems Development Management

• Define policies and ensure adherence to systems development standards and governance.
• Integrate security and privacy principles into all stages of system development.
• Plan and manage resources across the full system development lifecycle.
• Ensure delivery against technical, financial, and quality objectives.

Network Design

• Design, produce, and approve network architectures, topologies, and configurations.
• Define network parameters including capacity, performance, connectivity, and security.
• Assess risks and define resilience, recovery, and contingency strategies.
• Develop multiple architectural views addressing both functional and non-functional requirements.

Education, Experience & Training (Essential)

Education

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience;or
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of mobile and deployable communication infrastructure technologies.
• Experience in systems design and integration, including:
  • AC power distribution
  • Emergency power generation
  • UPS systems and supporting infrastructure
• Solid understanding of wireless technologies, including SATCOM.
• Experience with architecture modelling languages (e.g., UML, SysML, ArchiMate) within recognised frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, NAF, DoDAF, Zachman).
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
• Demonstrated application of quality assurance practices.
• Hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of communication systems (development, deployment, testing, maintenance).

Certifications

• ITIL Foundation certification.
• PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent (e.g., PMP).

Experience & Training (Desirable)

Experience

• Experience with NATO Architecture Framework (NAF v4).
• Knowledge of Federated Mission Networking (FMN).
• Experience working in international, civil-military environments.
• Understanding of NATO structures and organisations (ACO, ACT).

Certifications

• PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent (e.g., PMP).
• TOGAF, ArchiMate, or equivalent certification.

• Location: Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium (full-time on-site)
• Workload: 836 hours
• Travel: Occasional travel (1–2 times/month within Belgium)
