VIB in Belgium seeks a PhD-level computational biologist to lead cross-disciplinary computational biology tasks and to coordinate large-scale swarm-based solutions. You will collaborate closely with wet-lab teams and AI units to advance memory, harness and swarming technologies, and you will contribute to international conferences and publications.

The role emphasizes cutting-edge research, data integration, and training PhD students within a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment at VIB.

Qualifications

• PhD in computational biology, computer science, AI or related fields.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Desire to push the frontier of biology and software engineering.

Responsabilités

• Oversee dozens of computational biology tasks across biological disciplines.
• Launch agent swarms solving these tasks and monitor their progress.
• Communicate with task experts to translate biological needs into new tasks.
• Identify and integrate validation data with wet-lab collaborators.
• Manage a large codebase containing harness, memory, tasks, swarm behaviour and data.
• Formulate and test hypotheses to improve harness, memory and swarming.
• Present research at international conferences and publish in journals.
• Contribute to supervision of PhD students.
