University of Antwerp is seeking a Doctoral scholarship holder to research asphalt pavement technologies, interfacial bonding and multiscale behaviour of recycled asphalt concrete. You will work within DreamPave, a Belgium-Vietnam collaboration, using chemical/rheological methods, microscopy and molecular dynamics to connect nanoscale insights to pavement performance.

You will plan the research with supervisors, defend your thesis, report progress, and seek funding.

Qualifications

• Master degree in civil engineering, materials science/engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or closely related field.
• Excellent study results and strong interest in scientific research.
• Experience with bitumen/asphalt materials, rheology, chemical characterization, microscopy or interfacial testing is recommended.
• Good knowledge of English (oral and written).
• Experience with molecular dynamics simulation or scientific programming (Python/MATLAB) is an asset.

Responsabilités

• Prepare and defend the PhD thesis on interfacial bonding and multiscale behaviour of recycled asphalt concrete.
• Collaborate with supervisors to plan research methods and manage PhD administration.
• Conduct research and seek funding for costs; report progress to supervisors and committees; present at conferences.
• Contribute scientifically to existing research projects within DreamPave and related lines of research.
• Collaborate with University of Transport and Communications (Vietnam) and participate in bilateral exchanges.
