Vrije Universiteit Brussel invites applications for a PhD student position in the Faculty of Engineering, MeMC department, focusing on next-generation steel roof decking with micro-profiling and perforations. The project combines experimental and numerical work to understand stability and design of innovative roofing systems.

The predoctoral researcher will design experiments, develop FE models (ABAQUS) and apply optimization approaches, collaborating with partners across academia and industry.

Qualifications

• Master degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Familiarity with Eurocodes for cold-formed thin-walled steel sections.
• Experience with finite element simulations and optimization.
• Programming skills in Matlab, Python or C++.

Responsabilités

• Conduct experimental and numerical research on structural behaviour of light- and micro-profiled steel roof sheeting.
• Develop and validate finite element models and analytical/design-oriented models.
• Collaborate with academic and industrial partners to advance design solutions for next-generation steel roof decking.
• Assist in coordinating tutorials and teaching activities as needed.
