The University of Antwerp invites applications for two full-time doctoral scholarship holders in social policy. You will develop and defend a PhD within the ERC VOLARE project, analyzing how social policy design interacts with income volatility across several countries.

You will design the research plan with supervision, conduct mixed-methods research including interviews, and publish results. Start date Jan 1, 2027, with options for extension and participation in Antwerp Doctoral School

Qualifications

• Master degree in sociology, socioeconomic sciences, economic sciences or related field by appointment.
• Excellent English language skills; basic Dutch/Finnish/Italian or willingness to learn.
• Solid background in quantitative and qualitative research methods and data analysis.
• Keen interest in socioeconomic policy issues and European welfare states.
• Experience with in-depth interviews is a plus; familiarity with microsimulation or large-scale data analysis.

Responsabilités

• Prepare and defend a PhD thesis in socio-economic sciences.
• Develop research plan and methods with supervisor; undertake necessary administration for the PhD process.
• Conduct research efficiently and to a high standard, possibly abroad.
• Report progress to supervisor and committees; present research at conferences.
• Publish scientific articles related to the research project.
