European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is seeking an Internal Accountant in Brussels to cover maternity leave for eight months, with extension possible. You will handle accounting, financial operations, compliance and audits, reporting to the Head of Finance and collaborating with the finance team.

The role offers broad exposure, including contributing to a new accounting software project, with a focus on accuracy, confidentiality and professional stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• A university degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• At least 5 years of full-time professional experience in financial accounting.
• At least 2 years of experience with a Belgium registered company.
• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other standard financial tools.
• Full professional working knowledge of French and English.

Responsabilités

• Check data entry of accounting transactions in the custom software and project ledger.
• Post journal entries including payroll, accrued expenses, revenue and grants closures.
• Perform accounting reconciliations periodically including monthly bank reconciliations.
• Play a key role in the closure of the annual accounts and statutory audit.
• Prepare quarterly VAT (TVA) returns.
• Manage the EED Peppol account and liaise with suppliers on billing discrepancies.
• Ensure records are accurate and timely for local administration and audits.
• Provide input into development of accounting processes and new software implementation.
