Senior Network & Security Architect / Lead Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Network & Security Architect / Lead Engineer to join a long-term assignment within a large and complex public-sector IT environment in Brussels. This is a hybrid role combining approximately 50% architecture & design and 50% hands‑on engineering. We are therefore looking for someone who can define the technical direction while remaining comfortable working directly on the infrastructure, supporting complex migrations and resolving critical L3 incidents.

Your responsibilities

• Design and develop Network & Security architectures, including HLD and LLD
• Define technical roadmaps, standards and scalable solutions
• Lead and support datacenter projects, migrations and transformation initiatives
• Translate business and technical requirements into robust technical designs
• Review implementations and ensure technical quality
• Participate in hands‑on engineering, L3 troubleshooting and critical incident resolution
• Act as a technical reference for the Network & Security team
• Coach and support other engineers
• Work closely with internal stakeholders and external technology partners

Your profile

• Typically 8+ years of Network & Security experience
• Proven experience in network architecture and design
• Strong hands‑on Cisco ACI experience – mandatory
• Experience leading complex infrastructure migrations or transformation projects
• Able to combine architecture, governance and operational troubleshooting
• CCNP or higher, or equivalent expertise gained through experience
• PCNSE and/or Cisco ACI certification is a strong advantage
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Comfortable communicating with both technical teams and stakeholders
• Fluent in Dutch and English

Assignment

• Location: Brussels, near Brussels-North station
• Hybrid: approximately 1 day per week onsite
• Duration: 12 months, renewable
• Workload: Full‑time

Profil Recherché

We are looking for a Senior Network & Security Architect / Lead Engineer with typically 8+ years of experience in complex enterprise Network & Security environments. The ideal candidate combines a strong architectural mindset with a hands‑on engineering approach and is comfortable moving between design, governance, implementation and advanced L3 troubleshooting. Strong practical experience with Cisco ACI is essential, alongside solid expertise in Palo Alto, datacenter networking, firewalling, VPN, segmentation and high‑availability environments. Experience with VMware NSX, complex migration or transformation projects, and multi‑vendor environments is also expected. You should be able to produce HLD/LLD designs and technical roadmaps, translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, lead complex technical initiatives, and act as a technical reference for other engineers. A CCNP‑level certification or equivalent experience is expected. PCNSE and/or Cisco ACI certifications are strong assets. Experience with network automation, CI/CD or scripting is considered a plus. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are important, as well as the ability to coach and share knowledge within the team. Fluency in Dutch and English is required. The role requires approximately one day per week onsite in Brussels.
