Context

The Expertise Center Market Analysis and the Business Platform Power Trading, Structuring & Origination (PTSO) are looking for a Short-Term Power Market Analyst to join the Short-Term Power Market Analysis (STP) team in Brussels. The position sits on the trading floor, embedded in an extended team of market analysts, meteorologists, hydrologists and data scientists, and reports to the leader of the STP team.

The STP team covers short-term power markets — week-ahead, day-ahead, intraday, ancillary and imbalance — in support of trading and portfolio management activities in Central Western Europe (CWE). The team collaborates closely with the Long-Term Power and Meteo & Climate teams to develop and maintain the company’s fundamental modelling platform.

The role combines deep market expertise with machine learning and data science methodologies to propose trading and portfolio management strategies. The analyst will contribute to the development of automated trading capabilities for flexible assets, renewable imbalance risk optimization, and proprietary trading in short-term power markets.

Your Mission

As Short-Term Power Market Analyst, your mission is to turn market fundamentals into trading value: monitoring short-term power markets, forecasting prices and proposing trading and portfolio management strategies, while owning your models end-to-end from research to production.

Your main activities:
  • Monitor power markets and short-term supply/demand fundamentals across wholesale and ancillary markets.
  • Support the Short-Term Trading desk with price forecasts, trading signals and risk analysis, co-developing strategies with traders and portfolio managers in real time.
  • Contribute to innovative automated solutions for asset optimization and trading, including flexible assets and renewable imbalance risk.
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of models and applications — research, design, development, implementation and maintenance — enhancing their stability through testing, code optimization and peer reviews.
  • Prepare and publish regular and ad-hoc market analysis reports; develop dashboards and digital platforms to share analysis with stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic insights supporting the development and expansion of commercial opportunities in CWE.
  • Mentor junior analysts and take ownership of key projects, coordinating resources and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and data sources — including advances in weather forecasting and AI — and contribute to the team’s roadmap for future models and tools.
What we are looking for
  • In-depth knowledge of power markets, with proven expertise in intraday and imbalance markets.
  • Advanced analytical and programming skills (Python), with experience building models and applying data science and machine learning techniques to operational challenges.
  • Experience in developing stochastic or deterministic optimization models, with strong decision-making skills contributing to optimization and trading strategies.
  • Prior experience in trading or operating assets in wholesale and/or ancillary service markets is a plus; familiarity with cloud-based tools (e.g. AWS), advanced visualization platforms and high-performance computing environments is a plus.
  • Clear and effective communication, written and verbal: able to convey complex issues and models to diverse audiences.
  • Strong team spirit, collaborative approach and humility; at ease in a multicultural, fast-paced environment.
  • Creativity, initiative and autonomy, with composure under tight deadlines.
  • A proactive mindset with the drive to identify and solve complex problems.
Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant area (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc.).
  • At least 5 years of experience in power markets.
Languages
  • Dutch and French are a plus.
  • A position at the forefront of short-term power market analysis, with direct daily exposure to trading decisions.
  • Integration within a larger team of experienced market analysts, meteorologists, hydrologists and data scientists.
  • An intellectually challenging job, leveraging cutting-edge tools and innovative strategies.
  • Autonomy, real responsibilities and the possibility to grow, learn and develop, including attendance to conferences.
Diversity & Inclusion

If you meet these requirements, then you are the talent we are looking for.
